Once heard, who could ever forget the incomparable voice of Juanita Hall and these lovely lyrics?
This Bali Ha'i may not be an island in the literal sense, but it is an island of beauty. A 3-storey, white stone and pink tile 'island' in a 'sea' of colour and shining water.
No attempt has been made at total authenticity, but there is a decidedly Eastern slant to the furnishings throughout Bali Ha'i. On the open plan ground floor, beyond the entry guarded by two stone sentinels, wood screens have been used for the illusion of separation between the living areas. . . TV viewing, conversation, office and relaxation. There is a small powderroom tucked into one corner at the rear.
Second level is more conventional with private spaces for 2 double bedrooms and a wonderfully roomy bathroom. The gallery on this floor has been given over to music . . . a grand piano and cello take centre-stage here. The kitchen and dining room share another spacious layout and completing the room count for the second floor is an informal entertainment area with bar and sound system, plenty of seating and a half-wall of wooden slats giving a view of the sun deck beyond. A door behind the stairwell gives access to that area of the deck, as also does a second exit in the kitchen.
The top level of Bali Ha'i' is a wide expanse of stone paving with a games area, telescope, seating and harmonious plantings - plus a hammock for those lazy hazy days. Last but by no means least . . a 2-storey orangery. This has clear glass surrounding all sides on the upper level and two on the lower, with an open front; leisure chairs and a mall table have been provided to enhance the ambience of this delightful retreat.
The grounds are landscaped and paved where necessary; and there is a garden swing seat with a good view of the fountain complex along one long side of the lot, company for the pair of flamingos in residence. Water features also include two pools within the roofline, both watched over by dragon-spout fountains.
Bali Ha'i - not an island, but a special place in it's own right.

Bali Ha'i was built on and for the lot on the corner of Landgraab Avenue and Oak Grove Road in Sunset Valley, however, the lot has no special requirements/restrictions and should install happily on any FLAT 30x40 lot.
