“An ornate stone dais…among other things”
“A big stone rock and she won’t say why” he replied.
“Oh well, where’d the suspense be otherwise.”
Lara followed the stream of water that laced the middle of the ruins. It slowly trickled above the stones and played a beautiful melody, a melody that provokes almost total relaxation. But Lara wasn’t relaxed; she was too pumped up to uncover the secrets that surely lie here. The further she followed the stream, the more the walls encased around her. Now Lara was knee deep in water, walking up a chasm that was slowly becoming a tighter fit. As Lara was about to round a corner she heard someone’s voice.
“No, she’s not here yet! ......Of course I would. Listen you just better make sure I get paid, otherwise you know whose door I’ll be knocking on”
It was definitely a man’s voice, and by the lack of response and continuation of the conversation, Lara gathered he was talking on the phone. She listened for the beep as he hung up and waited to make sure there were no other voices, no one else with him. Cautiously Lara peered around the corner, and saw the man with his back turned toward her. She also noticed the ruins that laid before him, he was right in Lara’s way and there didn’t appear to be any way around him. Lara quietly crept up behind him; if she did it right then maybe it wouldn’t turn into a huge confrontation. Her heart was pounding as adrenaline rushed through her veins. One step slowly in front of the other, she swiftly encroached and knocked him unconscious. That was easier than she’d anticipated. “Any idea who he is? Or who he works for?” Zip asked into her headset.
“I haven’t the foggiest, but he’s deliberately on the mark though”
“Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” Alistair questioned.
“It’s deliberate, which isn’t good.” Lara replied.
Lara approached the ruins that now lay before her. She took a second to marvel at them, their sheer architecture was unfathomable. But she had to move on; after all the ruins weren’t the only reason she was here. There were artifacts that she’d yet to find.
Hauling herself into the ruins, Lara followed the entrance to wherever it may lead. After a few moments she heard more voices, two more guards blocking her path. True these guards were a bit harder to defeat than the measly guard who had been outside the ruins but Lara managed with as much grace as possible, and left them unconscious. “Who are all these guys!??!” Zip questioned, confused
“The question is why go to so much trouble to guard some ruins” Alistair added.
“Quite.” Lara replied.
Lara kept moving on until she was back out in the cool, crisp fresh air. Looking onward she saw the entrance to the ruins she’d been looking for. “Isn’t she beautiful? I’m falling in love all over again” Lara said as she gazed upon them.
“I bet you say that to all the ruins” Zip replied smiling.
“I’m a terribly lucky girl--” Lara paused as a chopper flew overhead “And here come the bloody tourists to spoil it all” “Your cam doesn’t pick up detail that small, what do you see?”
“More guards, muscle for hire by the look of them”
“What’re they doing there?” Zip questioned.
“Getting into trouble” Lara replied.
