Get That Look – Mermaidcore

We have a treat today!!  In this Get That Look, we are exploring CC that fits one of the newest trends – Mermaidcore!  This aesthetic look is glamorous and summery and has a total vibe.  If you want your Sims to look trendy, glamourous, and like a mermaid out of the water, this trend is totally for you!  This trend incorporates elements I would never think would look great together, but it all works so well that it is astounding!

What Is Mermaidcore?

Mermaidcore is a new aesthetic that is trending right now.  And we are not talking mermaid tails and shell tops!  This trend takes blues, glitters, bright colors, sequence, halter tops, long skirts and dresses, two-piece ensembles, and crochet bags and splashes them with ocean glam.  You can mix crochet bags with long dresses, shells, and glitter! This trend is rocking with seaside glam! And we have loads of content here at TSR to get the Mermaidcore look of your dreams!

This look is an ocean vibe with a splash of high glam.  But really, anything with glitter is glam, yes? Mermaidcore is more than just swimsuits; in this look wet-looking hair and fabrics are acceptable!  Shell accessories and accents are a super significant addition to this trend with iridescent, sheer, satin, and sequin materials!  This trend seems to incorporate Y2K vibes with glitter and ocean, making it a super summer trend.

Why Is This Trending

So where is this trend Mermaidcore? Well, it is all over the runway, TikTok, and everywhere.  Of course, this is probably due to the new Little Mermaid movie coming out.  The film comes on May 26th, so it is coming very soon! Not to mention it is almost Summer here in the United States, so beachwear.  But on a serious note… mermaid-core, why not?  Glam, glitter, ocean vibes… I am here for this!

1 – Clothing

CC Links – Eyeshadow, Dress & Gold BRACELET

With Mermaidcore, there are three main directions to go; 1 – long dresses, 2 – two-piece ensembles, or 3 – iridescent or scale-like clothing.  Long skirts and dresses are related to the tail, which is a big part of this trend.  Halter tops and two-piece ensembles are also a big part and mimic the two piece mermaid look.  Iridescent, sheer, or glittery anything that resembles scales is also a plus.

It is really up to you how you do this look as there are many ways just in clothing options to pull it off. As you can see in the image above, a crochet top and long skirt works wonder for this aesthetic, as does a shiny two-short skirt piece, pictured below.

This style is all about mixing and matching while staying glamorous, and I love it.  The two-piece outfits are also perfect for hotter weather as many of them are crop tops or sometimes bikini tops, making them ideal for beachside attire!

2 – Hair

With Mermaidcore aesthetic hairstyles are long and wavy or wet-looking.  However, putting sea-inspired accessories in any hairstyle is acceptable for sure.  I love the longer wavier hairstyles, but that is my preference!

3 – Accessories

For this trend, shells, crystals, dangly earrings, fishnets, and anything loosely related to the ocean or seaside are a lovely addition to your Sim’s look.  This is also not generally a minimalistic look and is full of statement pieces of layered jewelry, bright and colorful accessories.  If it is related to the sea or glittery, the accessory can be used for a Mermaidcore look.

4 – Makeup

CC Links – Eyeshadow, Eyeliner, Lipgloss, & Blush

There are loads of ways to do makeup for a Mermaidcore look.  I went with a glossy wet look for the Sim above, but you can do rich colors or large amounts of glitter or even go a little natural.  After reading about this trend and seeing the emphasis on glitter, I was like… well, this can’t go wrong, can it???  I LOVE glitter!

We cannot discuss Mermaidcore without highlighting a few CC mermaid tails, can we?  No, of course not!  Artists at TSR have created some great tails for your mermaids, and I love them!  Some of them are so detailed and lovely it is Simply incredible! Summary

I had a lot of fun with this edition of Get That Look!  Mermaidcore is super fun, and I was challenged to try different styles within the Mermaidcore aesthetic.  I wanted to showcase high glam, swimwear, minimalistic… well, just as many variants as possible from this aesthetic look.  Overall I am pretty pleased with how these looks came out. However, I wish I had downloaded more glitter CC to make some extra glamourous looks.  My style is usually dark and simple glam, so I keep things simple and wish I had gone just a little extra here for these Mermaidcore Looks.

The trend combines a lot of totally different elements into one style, so I wanted to do it justice the best I could.  Fortunately, there is loads of CC here at TSR that can be easily used for Mermaidcore!  It was quite the task of deciding what I would use first!
