The Benniest Chat and Forum

As few of you know, I am currently in the process of creating my own forum .. The Benniest. As you will see directly from clicking on the link, it is still offline, but with the help of rsdworker and sim_man123, both members here at TSR, we hope to soon have it online and running!

Tuesday night I submitted a Live Chat Application to TSR, requesting my own chatroom on TSR's Server. I waited 2 nights, until finally getting a chance to talk to tug, in private, about the application and getting my own chatroom.

IT WAS ACCEPTED!

I now own the chatroom, #thebenniest on TSR's: irc.thesimsresource.com server.

Drop by sometime and keep a look out for the opening of The Benniest!

Almost Open

I'm holding back on putting out my new site's name, for the simple reason that I'm still uploading files, and pictures onto it. So far, I have the "free downloads" section chock full of new eye colors, skintones, walls, flooring, and even terrain. I just need to add the free clothing (and I promise free does not equal badly made on this site, quite the contrary). The site name will be listed on a blog here this weekend (I know I've said that a million times before, but I promise! This weekend!) and the free section will be available for download by anyone (maxis object recolors coming later).

The members section will be coming in about another week, and (as I said a million times before) will feature hair/clothing/object meshes made by me, and recolors for those meshes. Any logo or brandname recolors will be posted here at TSR (there aren't that many of them), but the base mesh will have to be downloaded in the "members only" section, and once again, that will be $3.00 for 30 days of unlimited downloads, through Paypal. (Object meshes coming later)

Any questions, or requests, feel free to drop me a line.

See ya soon =)

What is a MESH and Why do I Need it?

I recently received a private message asking me what a mesh is and I realized that there are probably a lot of people out there who don't really understand about meshes. I know I've gotten several messages from people telling me that they can't find the mesh or telling me that my items won't work and then come to find out, they didn't download the mesh. So I decided to copy/paste my response here in the hopes of helping others who don't quite understand what a mesh is and why they need it. I love your clothes and I pretty much downloaded them all to my Sims2, but can you help me?!?! I don't know what that "Mesh" thing is!!! :( Hmmm...let's see if I can explain it to you. :) The mesh is actually the 3D model or structure that everything in the Sims is based on. There are clothing meshes and object meshes and anything else you might see in the game. When you are dealing with a clothing mesh, some people actually think of it as the article of clothing they just downloaded, but what you SEE is actually the "texture" or the "recolor" of the base mesh model. Everything you download requires a mesh for it to work in your game. Some clothing recolors (and object recolors) are based on meshes that are already included in the game which is why the artists will usually tell you if a custom mesh is required. For example, if someone writes in their item description "recolor of an outfit from the base game" or "requires Nightlife" (or whatever expansion pack) means that the mesh is already in your game if you have the required expansion pack. If someone writes "you must get the mesh from whatever site for this to work in your game", then you have to click on the link provided below the description and follow the directions to where the mesh can be downloaded. One thing to keep in mind...(and this is something a lot of people have trouble with)...the mesh may not look exactly like the outfit that you downloaded originally. This is because artists can further manipulate the texture to create the desired look but still use the same basic mesh. I have people sending me messages all the time that they couldn't find the mesh when in fact, the directions I gave them were very clear. They just didn't recognize the mesh when they saw it. Also, meshes are normally a single color depending on what color the artist uses for a temporary texture. (usually white, gray, or black) The mesh itself won't actually show up in the game unless it has a texture. Let me see if I can show you a couple of examples so that you will understand better. Here is a picture of one of my latest sets that I uploaded a couple days ago. Now here's the picture of the actual MESH file. As you can see, they look very different, but for my denim outfit to work, you must download the mesh which is the base for which the recolor is built on. You can also see that I modified the texture quite a bit by making it a long sleeved outfit and changing the neckline. But you can't let that fool you whenever you are looking for the right mesh to download. What you have to look at is the BASIC SHAPE of the outfit. This trips a lot of people up unfortunately. Here's one more example: A shorts outfit I created. And the mesh: On this example too, you can see that my outfit looks very different from the mesh...but the BASIC SHAPE is the same. Hopefully, this will help you to begin to make sense of all this mesh business and get back down to the business of downloading my creations! Let me know if you have anymore questions. Robin

Of elves, recolors and requests...

Its February, and in my world it means only one thing - exams, exams and more exams...Ok, thats three things, but you get the point. Still, between all those books I have to read and numerous definitions to learn and remember, I found some time to pitch in for this months FA theme - fantasy!
The "Avalons Daughter" hair set is definitely not one of my finest works (I just remodeled my "Simple Delight" hair set, tweaked it a bit and made it longer), but it looks OK in the game so I decided to publish it anyways. Maybe someone will actually like it... The model in the preview is using Louis` fantastic elf ear accessory, which you can download from Sim Scribbling. Great work, I tell you!
As for all those PM`s asking me if I could make this or that, or if I allow recoloring of my textures, I believe its time for me to give an answer to these questions. Every FA has his or her own policy, so I figured I should explain my POW on that.
Recoloring - Sorry, guys and girls, but Im not that positive when it comes to it. Its quite easy to take someones texture that took hours to be made and just change its color and lightness, publish it and get all the glory. Not very artistic, wouldnt you say? If you really want to recolor my creations, feel free to do so, but dont publish them. This, however, doesnt mean that you cant use my meshes to make your own textures for them. On the contrary! Each mesh maker loves to see how his or her mesh inspired someone to make a creation that looks different from the original work. Im actually kind of sad b/c I didnt notice anyone making new textures for my meshes. But I hope that will change soon...**hint hint**
Requests - I sure would love to have the time to make requests, but Im afraid I dont. With real life, college and all I barely have the time to make creations of my own, so at this point requests are just wishful thinking... I hope that some day this will change, and if it does, Ill be sure to let you know.

There it is. Now, if you would excuse me, I have some boring Q&A paper to read...Man, Im having so much fun in my life. Somebody stop me...

Feb. 23rd, Victorian Inspired Sofa Collection

Due to a problem with updating the Victorian Inspired Sofa Collection's mesh file the set is temporarily unavailable. I will re-publish the set and its revised mesh file on Feb. 23rd. Thanks!

WOW!

I'm thrilled to become a Select Artist! Thankyou all so much! Hope you find something you like here and thanks alot for visiting my homepage! Take care....Cat

Cool!

Hey, look at the big silver thing over there! Isn't that cool! Thanks to Thomas and Anita and Per and all the rest of the staff at TSR that have been so helpful! And thanks also to you wonderful people who keep coming back and getting more of my things for your little people! I really appreciate it. I'll try to live up to the recognition.

Building Simple Japanese Roofs

OK! I've set the first tutorial on Japanese Roofs for publication on Monday next (26 February). This is because I wanted to allow time to publish a large set of Japanese/Chinese roof tiles I've made, which everyone can use in following the tutorial! ;) Here's the preview pic for the tutorial, which is for Single-level roofs:

Marquise

This is a set of ballgowns / bridal gowns in 10 colour combinations. Each gown has a draped empire bustline with intricate beaded embroidery, boned strapless bodice & full taffeta skirt gathered into flounces with glistening beading detail. Inspired by a Mori Lee prom gown.

The gowns can be worn by adults and young adults and require Chriko's beautiful WideGown mesh from 2-f0r-u.de. The WideGown mesh is on page 2 of the meshes section.

Hair Recolors

Hi all! A couple of people told me that some of my hair recolors aren't showing up in the game. If you're having problems with any of my hair recolors not working are showing up just pm me and let me know. I just recently started binning my hair colors and I tested them in the game to make sure they were working okay. So far I haven't had any problems but if something's wrong I'll look into it. Also, don't forget you have to get the meshes needed for the hair colors to show up so make sure you click the link that'll lead you to the site for the mesh.

A note on the Chateau roofs...

The roofs of these lots were perfect when packaged and will be fine when you first enter the lot. If at a later date you enter the lot and the roof looks really tall, open the cheat window (Ctrl-Shift-C) and type "RoofSlopeAngle 55".

I'm afraid this is a bug in the game when using conical roofs and the RoofSlopeAngle cheat. But it's easily fixed if you follow the information above. Once you've entered the cheat, the roof will be fine.

Feb. 25th, Victorian Robber Baron's Study

The Victorian Robber Baron's Study is scheduled for release on Feb. 25th. The set includes 3 new meshs, a stack of cash, banker's lamp, and a ticker tape machine (tablelamp). I believe the banker's table lamp mesh is one of my favorite objects. I already have plans to create a set of recolors for the mesh.

Taking a break...

I'm stepping down for a while.

There is NO need for you to look all pleased about that! How rude!

But yes, I'm taking a break from our Sim worlds. I do intend to be back (you don't get rid of me and my rust THAT easily) and I also have a couple of completed sets to upload ready for March (so that you'll think I'm still here and haunting you).

In the meantime, thanks to all of you who have downloaded the utter nonsense I make, and thanks to TSR who tried their very hardest not to look TOO delighted when I first announced this. That was a joke, by the way. It had BETTER be a joke!

Take care all, and thanks a million!

Chateaux Lots!

I've been working on a series of Chateaux for your Sims, based on the beautiful buildings in France. At this point I really ought to thank my mum and late father for taking me to see these gorgeous palaces as a child (and while I'm at it, I'm sorry I moaned my way round by the time we got the fifth one, Mum ;-) )

While I can't hope to do the architecture justice using Maxis Only items, I do hope you'll feel I've captured their spirit. The first set is out tomorrow. It's a set of two, on a 3x3 lot with moat and landscaped grounds. There will be another larger community lot along at the end of the week - I'm just tweaking the preview pics in the hope that I can tempt you!

Here's a few pics:

Vacation

I'm sorry I can't reply your comments, PMs in time during the next 10 days since I'll be on my vacation.

See you then few days later everyone:)

Brainstorm

This is how I feel at the moment. In the sense that in my brain there's a big storm and I can't see the light at the end of it. Well, maybe I'm exaggerating the situation, but I've got a lot of ideas for things I want in my game, and I keep jumping from one item to the other, thus messing often things up. Since the Sentry fence took me a lot of time and work to get it right (due to my modest capabilities, I think), I've decided to take some rest from fences and gates. My next project are columns! As you can see in the pic, I'm making some columns matching Daniel the Lionhearted door. I have some things to adjust in the packages, and I have to completely mesh the arch. I'd like to try and make a two story arch too, but I'm not sure I will succeed in doing it. If I will, you'll be the first to know. :D Oh, and the floors and walls in the picture are another project in testing phase. Silvia

No...Thank YOU!

I wanted to take a moment to thank all those who have downloaded and commented on my creations. Some days, I am overwhelmed by the number of awesome comments I receive and often feel that I am not able to properly thank each and every one of you. It would take me hours to give each of you the response you deserve!

So I want to say THANK YOU!

Thank you for taking the time to download my creations.

Thank you for leaving me so many wonderful comments.

Thank you for continuing to give me the inspiration and motivation to keep trying to improve my skills so that I may continue to offer you new things for your Sims.

What's Happening?

Hello again!
This has been a weird time for me in TSR. Over Christmas I was unable to Sim at at all, and now I'm making another movie...so it's been a LONG time since I submitted anything...and yet during this apparent non-activity I have become even more involved in the Sims.
As you know TSR do not currently accept movie submissions (and they may never do that)..I am simply not able to make stories AND movies at the same time so I've been wondering how I can stay more actively involved at TSR.
I did consider submitting some movie sets, but I realised that this was going to compromise my ability to use a huge range of custom content in my movies.....creators are usually much more generous in allowing their items to be used in screenshots / stories / movies than in uploaded lots... for obvious reasons.
So my plan now is to submit clothing and any object recolours that I have created for my current project, and I'll do this as soon as my movie is finished.

Feeling creative again!!!

Well Im lookin to make some new stuff, but Im not sure where to start. Let me know what ya'll want. I can do new prints of skirts or shirts or whatever, or new band/cartoon style shirts, or more pretty bikinis, or just about anything else. So, let me know!!

*lookin forward to hearing from ya'll*

Want this wallpaper too?

Because I'm selfish, I thought I'd NOT include one of the clay wallpapers, leaving you all without a nice blue shade. It IS shown on the set picture, but before today it won't have been found in the download pages!

Alternatively, it might not have been a deliberate act of selfishness, but just ANOTHER example of how I can get it all wrong (sigh).

Anyway, if you want this blue paper, pop along to this page and download it before I change my mind!

Busy Bee!

In case you are wondering, I have been horrendously busy lately - what with taking a late holiday, a belated Christmas with my family AND having some really great chums over to visit from Australia.

Which brings me to my next bit of news, I resigned my job! Yup so I am off to live in Australia (lucky you Kath!!!), well Melbourne to be exact, but still a lot closer to the lovely Kath here at TSR, who lives in Sydney.

My partner and I, and my pretty puss Tales are off in the next two months so I have heaps to do! I also will have a whole new house to decorate in RL, so that is going to prove to be very exciting, hopefully I have learned something from the recolours I do ingame!

In the meantime, please enjoy my latest set!

hugs

Nancy

Goodbye, but you can find me at EA Thailand's Sims Forum.

I am retired from TSR now, but you can find me at EA Thailand's Sims Forum --my account is "The T ( Mr. Dhay )". I will seldom post my new creations there if I have free time --It is free of charge. I started at TSR as a sim couturier and builder for Sims 1 and uploaded about 2 and a half year before Steve offered me FA title --it was long time ago while TSR did not has subscription system yet. There are a lot of helpful & kindful people in the forums that the reason why my creations are improved. Thanks to everyone. Sample of what I already finished and will post there See you again there, Tae, Mr. Wittawat Srikwan

Nomadic Rosalinde's Caravan

A bit of silliness here. Definitely unusual. For those who like the odd and a little bit off center .... this is perfect for you. LOL! I do apologize for all the extras that need to be downloaded for this lot (8 items). They are all necessary for the house to look right and most important are Targa's ladderstairs over at MTS2. I have such trouble working with Maxis' big, clunky stairs since most of my houses are on the tiny side. So if you do download the house, please don't forget Targa's ladderstairs. Personally I think they are very cool and they save so much space for more interesting things. Enough of my blah, blah, blah! Here are some pix for you!

Tutorials on Japanese/Chinese Roofs

I was stuck in a bit of a dither about which tutorials to work on this month! Sorry. ;) I've got lots of pics and notes on a fair number, but the work is editing and categorising, before writing.

In the end I've set out three large tutorials on Japanese and Chinese Roofs. The first is a simple one-level roof.

The second is a complex set of roofs, and explains more about using scaffolding.

The third is specifically on how to create a Sims2 version of the marvel of this style of roof - the irimoya or half-gable/half-hip roof that is often seen sitting atop a pagoda or large pavilion.

And woooooh - I've learned a lot! :)

Mini-Milestone

Boy that was fast. I went from 1 million in the beginning of January to 1.5 million now. Thank you to everyone who downloads, thanks and comments. Without you, I don't know if I would do what I do.

More new things coming. Several recolors of AnoeskaB's Turano Dining Room. A wall TV set in the 20 colors. Lots of cool walls, floors, rugs and paintings.

Thank you for making this mini-milestone possible!

Update On My New Website

I've secured the sitename (as I think I mentioned before), and have been having loads of fun designing the site (it's really cute--but not too glitter-graphicy...also, that adorable brown teddy bear on my mini-site here at TSR is used in the logo).

I just wanted to clarify a few things--in a way, it will be a repeat of the first blog I entered detailing my site.

1. I've struggled long and hard with this one...the pay or no-pay issue, and here's the verdict. Any Maxis-made mesh recolors will be free. I don't think it's right to ask anyone to pay for recolors of meshes that come with the game. Trust me when I say that I have A LOT of those recolors, so it will NOT be a matter of like 8 maxis-mesh recolors to 800 of my own mesh recolors--not by far. My own meshes AND their recolors, however, will be pay. I mentioned on the other blog the monthly subscription fee, and I'll mention it again in #2.

2. The monthly subscription fee is $3.00. I don't see the price increasing, so do not worry about me starting off at $3.00, and then raising it to $10.00 a couple of months later. I'm not trying to rip anybody off (which is why I decided to make Maxis recolors free), but it would be great to have the proceeds go to maintaining the site, etc. The payments will be processed through PayPal, and I'm sure at some point a few months from now, I will link up to other payment sites. As far as mailing payments, I think it's not the best idea to send a $3.00 money order in the mail--between the postage and the money order, you'll really be spending like $5.00-$6.00.

3. I posted in the blog before this one that I've become more selective about the clothing that I choose to feature on my new site, and nothing could be more truthful. I mean, I feel my submissions here at TSR have been really nice, but I've seen so many flaws in my creations (so many recolors that I just don't pull off too well, or clothing patterns that I've put onto meshes that don't really showcase it, or even really nice clothing patterns that I've put onto meshes that no longer exist, etc.) and it's prompted me to really think about what I'm going to be submitting. I can gaurantee that both the free and pay side of my site will be filled with high-quality, clear-defined, and stylish clothing that you'll be giddy to get into your game ASAP.

4. My newest meshes for clothing are really cute--I've even previewed some in my screenshots. More sweater options for toddlers and kids, and more meshes geared towards those ages as well. Between now and the next couple of weeks, I'd like to get into object and hair meshing, so that my site will not be so one-sided (clothing-wise).

5. I promise that I will still submit to TSR, but as I mentioned in an earlier blog entry, it will be few-and-far between. My main submissions will be creations that bear logos (I will NOT be featuring logo clothing on my site, and I think it's important to note that). Whether they are maxis-made meshes, or my own meshes, if there's a logo on it (I've already got Charlie Brown logos, and Sesame Street logos, etc.), I will submit it here, and if it requires a mesh from my site, I promise to indicate that, so there are no mix-ups or confusion.

6. As far as my up-and-running date, it should be this weekend, sometime. Not all the categories will be open (most will have a coming-soon sign when you click on the button), but all clothing, wallpaper, and floors will be available for downloads.

OK, I think I answered as many questions as I can think of right now--I'm at work, so I'd better get back to it, lol. If anyone has any other questions, I'll add them to this blog, and try to answer them as best I can. I know you'll love my site, and I just want to state something really important...

I know that I became angry at TSR in an earlier blog, but I want to assure anyone reading that I am not really angry at TSR, but at myself for going through the fiery hoops that I, myself, have created to jump through in order to impress the powers-that-be here. For a long while I was obssessed with the thought of becoming a FA, so much so that I OD'ed on submissions, and went nuts trying to get as many in one sitting as I could, but as much as it hurt me that they never offered a FA spot to me here, I'm thankful to them for a) giving me a start on my creations, b) at least giving me a select artist spot, c) introducing me to a great simming community (so good to know I'm not the only one addicted to this game), and d) helping me to realize that it's time to spread my own wings, and fly to an endeavor of my own, which I am finally doing.

I hope you're all enjoying my newest submissions here, and I will continue to take requests here, but please understand that my main submissions will no longer be housed here.

Happy simming all.

Beach Boys!

Hello everyone!

I have just uploaded a set of six swimwear for boys. It wasn't too bad uploading this week (I have dial-up) but last week it took about four hours! ha! ha! - must get broadband.......

Hope you like 'em by the way!

Halfway there

Just thought I'd show you a picture of what I'm working on now, the garden furniture set. The hardest part, a large parasol, is done - and I'm glad it is, because it was absolutely refusing to cooperate :) - so I think the set will be finished soon. The picture doesn't really show much, but I hope you'll like the set when it's done!

So much to do, so little Sim time :-(

Hi all, I'm afraid RL hasn't allowed enough Sim time this week but I shall be back soon with details of the two Chateau lots coming next week :-) And I've started uploading some lots that will be available in the next two weeks - you can check these out under Upcoming Items...

Announcing...

Today, I would like to announce that I have decided what my next mini stuff pack is going to be. And it's going to be... TheSims 2 Groovy Stuff Mini Stuff Pack. At the moment, I have not begun the project, but I have come up with some ideas. Please do not expect this pack to be as large as the Modern Stuff Mini Pack. Also, don't expect it out anytime soon. It won't be out until probably April. I will be working on other projects too, and other sets. And, I am still working on the TS1 for TS2 Mesh set, and I'm making great progress :-) Happy simming! ~simmyfan2852~

Euro Doors and Windows

Inspired by a request from Benny Boy for shorter versions of the Belhooven and Safe-T windows from OFB expansion pack I have pieced together a first set of Euro Doors and Windows. As I don't like that blocky window sill of the original Belhooven and Fentre Fantastique windows I skimmed it down and included the adjusted windows in this set. Also included are a glass door with transom, single arches with and without transom, short, small and privacy windows, sidelight window and 2T windows.

Luxuriare Completer Set

I must be on a roll. I was finally inspired to tackle a project that I've been meaning to do since I did the Lap of Luxury completer set - to do a similar treatment of the gorgeous Luxuriare Loveseat. This was a lot trickier to handle then the completer sets for sofas have been, as it required sizing a mesh up, not just whacking a chunk out of the middle and closing the gap neatly (which is usually my first step when making loveseats and armchairs out of sofas, hehehe!). To my considerable surprise I managed to get a remesh I was happy with on the first go. Well, second go if you count the disastrous attempt I abandoned last year! The new set should be available for download on Monday.

Carmen Electra

I had a request to make a face for actress Carmen Electra. While searching for pics, I fell in love with some of her outfits, so I have decided to make this a new theme. So this week I'll be making a face and some outfits for Carmen, and the rest of the outfits will be finished next week. I have about 25 outfits picked out, although that number is subject to change as I get things going. I'll pop in with previews throughout the week.

Victorian Robber Baron's Study

The Victorian Robber Baron's Study is a set recolor of my Victorian Inspired Study. The set features antique gold furniture with green and gold fabrics. In addition, the set has 3 new meshes. I plan to release the new set later this month. Happy Simming!

Moon & the Stars Eye Selection

Definitely for those who want to add some novelty and whimsy to their Simmies. 9 'starry' eyes to choose from.

Mr. Bubbles Bathroom

There may be a problem with the wall & floor files. I am redoing them so they do not overwrite original file or anyone elses file recolors. Sorry, I will upload the new files ASAP. So if you have trouble, just download the new file and click yes to overwrite. Again, sorry for any inconvenience. TabbyLou

Homme Boys...:p

Hi folks!

Happy Valentines day, (1 day late) I hope everyone had a romantic something-or-other planned. And if not, I hope you chuckled heartily at all those lovesick saps. Hehe

Anyway, as you can see, those mens t-shirt outfits were released yesterday. I hope it will be the first in a number of non-female releases from me. I would like to do some teen clothes, and especially some elder clothes. Please feel free to PM me with ideas and suggestions. I wont be making any promises, but I could use some inspiration.

I see that the results of my poll are leaning heavily toward hair retextures, and I have quite a few in mind. I'll be working on that next, and then I will dip back into an ongoing project of mine that is a resurrection of a popular project I did for Sims 1. Retro Fashion through the 20th century. Starting in the 20's and working my way through to the 70's. I'm especially excited about that, and If all goes well, It could be a great deal of fun.

Next/Upcoming Projects

Now that the TS2 Maxis Match Set has been finished and published, I will have more time to devote to the TS1 for TS2 Mesh set. I am working on the Zebra Couch from TS1. I still have some more work to do on the lingerie (sp?) clothes rack texture. I'm hoping to have this set done with by this weekend or next weekend, so that means I have a lot of work still to do.

Also, I have decided that I may start making object sets for TS1. I'll let you know how I'm doing with that.

On a final note, I am looking for an idea for my next mini stuff pack. It won't be as massive as the Modern Stuff Mini pack, but if you have any ideas, feel free to comment and leave me your ideas! :-)

Until next time, happy simming!
~simmyfan2852~

Happy Valentine's Day/Your feedback is always welcome

Hi! Just wanted to say Happy V-Day to all of you lovebirds out there and I hope yours is a wonderful one, as mine is because I have the most wonderful husband in the world! (I know I sound like a lovesick puppy right about now, lol)

I can't say enough how much I appreciate all of the feedback I'm receiving from everyone who downloads my creations! Everytime I log in I have like 40 comments from you all and I must say it makes me so happy. And the more the better, so just keep them coming! I always tried to make sure I respond to all of your comments because I'm very serious about my appreciation-it means alot to me, so thanks!

I know it's been a while since I've created any lots and the reason for this is because I'm in school, so that's taking up alot of my time now. Even though I love doing the hair recolors, creating homes was always my first passion so I do intend on starting a new project soon - and of course I'll keep the hair colors coming. When I get a break I'll have something new for you. Hugs, queenie.

Still time to enter competition

Hi everyone, this is just a reminder that there is still a week left to the end of the Down and Out Celebrity Competition - so if you are interested in joining up head on over to the Challenge forum and showcase your creation.
