Designer Pointsettias

Have you seen the variety of pointsettias you can buy these days? Last year my granny found these really unusual (to me) blue and cream ones that she just fell in love with. She bought one and under her green thumb the thing flourished for months. I'd never seen a blue pointsettia before but they certainly became really popular fast. My personal favourites have always been the pink coloured ones - solid dusty rose pink, spotted pink, mixed pink and cream - they're just a little softer and more delicate looking than the stark red ones, I think.

Anyway, I thought our Sims should have a wider choice of pointsettias available to them as well so I've made some of these new 'designer' breeds. The set contains 2 pink and cream versions - one a light pink and the other a dark pink (or brighter, if you will) - and a soft blue and cream version. I also made a copper and blue pot to use with them.

How to subscribe to TSR artist blog (RSS feed)

Did you know that you can subscribe and receive news (blog updates) from minisite owners at TSR? How? Subscribe to RSS feed of that blog.

What is RSS feed? RSS feed or Web feed is a way to receive website news without actually visiting the site. Somewhat similar to a website newsletter, only it doesnt come in a form of an email but has a different format. Here is a better explanation. TSR provides this format for all minisite blogs and the front page news.

To read RSS feed you need an RSS reader a program similar to email application. If you have Internet Explorer 7, it comes with a built-in RSS reader. You can also get a free reader from the web, they come as stand-alone applications or web-based readers.
Instructions for IE7 users:

To subscribe, go to minisite of selected artist and open artists blog. Click on RSS feed link.

On the page that opens, click Subscribe to this feed link, then click Subscribe button in a popup window. Done!

To view subscriptions, click Favorites icon in IE7 (yellow star) and switch to Feeds tab. All your subscriptions will be listed there. Blogs or websites on your list that were recently updated, will appear in bold.

Click on the site\blog name to read the update.

Other sites. You can use the same method for any other site that provides RSS feed. You either locate the link to the feed or simply check the feed indicator icon on IE7 toolbar. The icon is grayed out by default and lights up orange if the feed is detected on a page. Click on that icon to view the feed, then decide if you wish to subscribe.

The Crimson Knight

Sometimes I just have to do something random- just for fun. So, I just submitted The Crimson Knight. Just a recolor of the OFB suit of armor and helmet. I don't know why I decided to recolor it- just did.

There are also 3 of the aforementioned pet pillows submitted as well. I decided I really wasn't fond of #4 so it went bye-bye.

ENJOY!

Redundantly Stupid Statements

RSS feeds - that's what I'm going to carp on about today (almost a year on from when they were launched at TSR). Why today? Well, because I'm bone idle and didn't want to explain about them before, but Windkeeper has saved me that trouble by launching a terrific explanation in our forums on how they're used: Using RSS feeds...

Some might say that the REAL reason I never bothered explaining was because I simply didn't know myself what it was all about. But those 'SOME' people can just shut up!

So, what does RSS stand for? I dunno. Join everyone else on that. It's believed to be 'Really Simple Syndication'. Yes, it would have made more sense for them to be called something far more obtuse and complicated like, er, 'news feed' or something, but there we all are.

Anyway, RSS pages are basically web pages designed to be read by computers rather than people (or more precisely, little applications called feed readers). If you install a feed reader, this reader will check the net for updates on all your subscribed 'feeds' without you ever having to visit the site (though of COURSE you will want to come to THIS site, won't you?!) and they protect your privacy because you no longer have to give any email address in order to subscribe to any web service of interest. Windkeeper's post and the links she provides give far better explanations than I have, though.

Best of all, it means you can receive MY drivel whenever I can be bothered to write it. How about that?! All together now: Say "Ooh! Lovely!" With sincerity!!!

Japanese Cuisine

As promised, here is a sneak peek at the three dishes I've finished: Udon Soup, Soba Noodles and Miso Soup; as well as the new custom Japanese "Sakura blossom" dishes. Remaining 3 meals plus Sushi coming asap. ,

Gormless Georgians

Just one final tip should you decide to download the Georgian Goods lot. Sims making food in the kitchen of this lot seem determined to serve it on the table in the employees' area before taking it outside to their own designated area by the pool (which is much closer). The chairs at each table have the same comfort rating so I'm at a loss to understand why they do this! You have been warned, lol. Cancel the serve interaction as soon as they've made their food and they'll happily place it on a counter (or, more likely, the floor) from where they'll take their own plates out to the table by the pool.

Phew! Got that?!

I actually hired several employees for this lot and played it for a few days and not one employee got hungry. So, if it works the same way for you, you may decide to remove the employee BBQ area altogether - which will solve the original problem, too!

One last pic of the front of the lot:

Rambling Rose Lingerie

This is a set of silky satin chemises in romantic rambling rose print with lace trim. Can be worn as a nightie or as a petticoat. The chemises come in eight colour combinations ranging from a romantic pale pink chemise with white lace trim to an ultra sexy black version, so there should be something for everyone!

This set was inspired by a beautiful Betsey Johnson Intimates chemise. For adults and young adults. Standard Maxis mesh.

Colours

It's been great getting some feedback from the poll on what room colours you all prefer.Although I suspected when posting the poll that Neutrals would be strongly favoured.

It's still been interesting,I will leave it there a few days more, then try something new. I like to create rooms in all kinds of colours, I dont really have a personal preference. I suppose my favorite depends on my mood at the time.

Seasonal Doormats

You'll never believe it but I almost forgot to make holiday doormats! Yes, me, the rug-aholic! Eep! But rest assured, after a little time spent playing the game today and decorating my heart away with Christmas stuff, I realized I didn't have a single holiday doormat in my game - for shame! So here they are.

Set A consists of 8 doormats using Windkeeper's 1x1 runner rug. All the mats in this set feature a seasonal phrase as the main design element. You'll find greetings such as 'Happy Holidays', 'Merry Christmas', 'Noel' and 'Season's Greetings' here.

Set B also consists of 8 doormats, again using Windkeeper's 1x1 runner rug. The mats in this set are basically pretty seasonal images - not that there's anything wrong with that. ;P Find Santa Clauses, snowmen, pointsettias and similar holiday icons in this batch.

Sim Food

Many of you are patiently waiting for my Japanese Cuisine, therefore I thought an update was in order. I have finished 3 dishes (Miso Soup, Udon Soup and Soba noodles) and am working on 3 more (Tempura, Terriyaki, Gyoza). I should have some sneak peek images ready to share later today, and hopefully the set will be finished for publication next week. The Sushi will be a separate set of, most likely, 3 different meals. I'm also contemplating some sweet ice, but not sure yet on that one as Sims would have to eat it from a bowl. I am also currently working on two tutorials- one explaining how to create morphs (needed in food creation as well as some objects, like the crib rails), and the other specifically for food creation, both Maxis food recolors and new meshed, working food. These tutorials should be available here at TSR by January.

Pets objects shadow fix

I've included some shadow fix packages into my Atomic Plus set but have discovered several more shadow problems since then. One was reported by a user (thank you, wildstar24) and I found two more - that's additional 3 shadow fix files. You can also get these files at MTS2 in hacks section.

Shameless Plug...

..for the Georgian Goods lot. I've just been play-testing this lot and I have to say that I don't feel the photos do it justice. I know, I know, it sounds big-headed of me (and obviously I'm biased, lol) but it really does look good in game. Please don't be put off by the three floors, either. Because the place is so compact, it's easy to see the whole building on your screen at once and therefore it's easy to play, too.

Ok, I'm done imploring you to download it ;-) Here's a few interior shots of the Georgian Goods shop, which I hope will tempt you instead.

The shop is built over two levels (plus there's an outside area for sculptures).

The ground floor sales area:

And the outdoor sculpture area:

I hope to submit this lot in the next couple of days so it should be on the site around the end of the week.

Window Sills

I have got a new wideocard and when I looked at my window sills with my new wideocard the sills is much brighter than the windows. It has something to do with the game settings for windows, nothing I can do about it

Elegance

This lovely wallpaper will make any Sim the envy of their neighborhood. Elegance in Papaya: Elegance in Sagebrush:

A problem with Pets?

A couple of kind friends have pointed out to me that it seems the PETS expansion won't allow Replacing Pool Walls (yet?) I say 'yet' because maybe a patch will fix this?

Meantime I've added a note to the description, and will do some checking later on. I'm really sorry if anyone has got frustrated.

I can ask Maaike to edit the tutorial if necessary, but I'll try PETS first to see if I can work something out. It's my fault, I only tested up to OFB. :Oo:

Pet Beds

I made four lovely pet beds. At least I think they are lovely anyhoo. So as soon as I can actually get some good pics I'll be uploading those.

Truth be told I have a bunch of stuff just sitting on my desktop waiting for me to get pics so I can submit it. LOL!

Wood Styles

I often use the same wood colours in the sets I recolour. This means that often you can mix and match different pieces of furniture and create a style in your sim homes that is purely your own.

For example, the moonglow living room and choose your style dining set all use the same white wood. That means if you like clean bright spaces - you can achieve this throughout most of your home with timber that has the same characteristics and style.

Yuppie Heaven!

I designed Georgian Goods with a yuppie couple in mind: the top floor is an open plan area with everything your average yuppie might desire ;-) Most of the accomodation is on this floor, although there's a study area on the middle floor and a kitchen on the ground floor (leading to the dining area by the pool). Here's a few pics:

Ice Queen Theme

Time for a new theme! :) It's hard to get into the wintry mindset here in southern Sweden what with the lack of snow and mild temperatures but I'm ready to welcome the Ice Queen when she's ready to arrive.

Once again, if you'd like a copy of my latest desktop artwork, I've made a zip file available on my server space for you to download.

New Men's Mesh

I was looking through Bodyshop, thinking of what mesh to do for men. Funnily, I notice that ridiculous men's outfit with the "pouch" and I remember a gazillion years ago, before we could make meshes, someone had requested I make a recolor, but without the purse. Well, I forgot who requested it, and it's very much late, but I made it!

Christmas & Chanukkah Flags

As promised, I've finished off the Christmas and Chanukkah flag collections and they will be following up on the winter and snowmen flag sets. :)

You'll find 15 Christmas flags available, ranging in designs featuring various Santa Claus figures, angels, pointsettias and more. Many also include phrases.

For Jewish players, you'll be happy to hear I'm providing 8 Chanukkah flags in the appropriate set. It was difficult, to say the least, hunting down attractive Chanukkah-themed designs but I think I managed to root up a nice selection - I hope you'll agree. :)

What's Happening?

Hi All
I've been busy making a movie, or should I say extremely busy making the first twenty seconds of a movie. Wow is it time consuming!
Of course much of my time has been spent learning the basics of programs such as windows movie maker and freeware sound editors.
I think it's fair to say that it's going to take me several weeks before I start my next photostory, and hopefully by then I will have picked up some new ideas and techniques,
best wishes
Kate

Teen Casuals

Hi fellow Simmers -

I have just uploaded a set of casual clothing for your female teen Sims. I made these a couple of months ago and thought it about time I shared them with you! Hope you like 'em!

Happy Simming/Downloading/Creating -

Submitted Recolors

Yeah, waaayyy back on the 16th (long ago, eh?) I said I was working on some recolors of Kavar's Vintage hair. Yes, I'm a terrible procrastinator.
I finally have four that I pretty happy with so they are pending approval.

ENJOY!

Winter & Snowmen Garden Flags

You asked for it and here they come! :) Yes, I'm pleased to say that I've had many people eager and hopeful to add seasonal winter flags to their collections of colonial garden flags and I'm happy to oblige.

First up, I have a collection of 10 winter-themed flags featuring snowy scenes of winter birds, snowflakes and the like.

Second, I love snowmen. I'd have to say that snowman are my favourite Yule time decoration. So, since my winter-themed collection was getting spammed with a ton of snowmen designs I loved so much, I decided they needed a collection of their own. :) Enjoy a full dozen snowmen flags with wintry phrases.

Next I'll be adding Christmas and Chanukkah flags to the mix and then hopefully moving on to some other holiday decor to spruce up the inside of your Sims' homes.

Fancy a Challenge?

There's a great competition running in the forums at the moment, courtesy of Strawbz. Come and have a look! The challenge is to build the North Pole and/or Santa's Toy Workshop. The prize is a Christmas decoration from South Africa, which personally I think is a lovely idea. Anyway, I just thought I would mention it here in case anyone had missed it and fancied having a go. I can't enter as I'm helping to judge. But the Build a Lot Forum is a really friendly place so do come along and join in if you'd like to :-)

If you don't fancy a competition but are up for a challenge, there's lots of ideas there, too, including the Graduate Starter Challenge that I started a couple of weeks ago. It's still got a week to run so please come and join in if you'd like to have a go!

Added new hair

Hi guys!

I've added new hair, it will be up in about 2 days I think. It's braids for all ages, bound together in a ponytail, with cornrows on the head, in 10 colors.

Look out for it :)

Greetz from Nouk

On your guard

Window guards. How useful for bungalows they are...

Whether useful or not, I thought it was high time I made some. There are three designs, three colours - in three height positions so that they match pretty much any window size.

Rather pretty for me, really - but I'm sure I'll get over it soon. Back with some grime later!

Simpe Pets Version

Well, I just downloaded it and have been playing with it tonight.
So, maybe soon I'll have something cool for our pets.

I REALLY can't wait to upgrade my computer. While my hubby tweaked it and it plays Sims with no problems now- Simpe seems to be an even bigger resource hog! Gah!

Don't get me wrong- I love Simpe and am eternally greatful to it's creators. :)

What's coming soon...

November 26 will see my white recolor of the Maxis Vampire Gown. It was a requested item. Hope you enjoy it!

New cat pet bed

I'm putting final touches on my troublesome cat bed. It has been in the works for quite a while and has not been an easy task.
But it is almost finished and I hope to upload it to be available this weekend.
If you have any wishes for color scheme please post here....

It is designed for cats but dogs will use it as well, large dogs however don't really fit size wise.... gliches will occour when they use it (parts of it will go through the case.

I could make it larger but i decided to make a bed for cats and wanted to make the bed a bit smaller.... in general I think the pet beds are so BIG :)

Getting a-round to it...

Just when you thought I'd FINALLY stopped coming up with these bad blog titles! Anyway, remember these round walls I was telling you about AGES ago?

...Well, I finally uploaded them today. To demonstrate just how far behind I am, I made these during July/August, so if I've promised you any requested items, it might be wise not to expect them until towards the next millenium. I haven't forgotten you, i'm just incompetent.

And there we all are.

Tokyo Windows - work in progress

A large project I'm working on, inspired by Japanese Shoji style. Full size modern windows with Shoji screen insets. The sreen part is semi-transparent, though you can't tell that from the picture. The screen inset will also come in bamboo texture (for oriental look) or in simple glass (ultra modern look). There will be several more windows, both round and rectangular shape. Matching doors are also on my todo list.

2nd tute - Building Pool Waterslides

And I've finally gotten round to showing how to make pool waterslides, for any version of the game. In Nightlife, Maxis made pools much easier, so the first half of my tute is the 'easy' version. For those of you who have the original game and maybe also University, and have had trouble with the famous 'blue mist' I've explained in the second half of the tute how to deal with the monster!!!!! ;) Here's the preview pic, and you may like checking out my earlier building lots Aqua Libra and Marbella (check my archive early on, for early 2005 buildings) and the much more recent Rapa Manu and Ariki Koro to see how waterslides can add so much to a building! :)

First new tute - Replacing Pool Walls

I thought the best way to publish these was to provide a simple Replacing Pool Walls tutorial first. I learned this method from MikeInside, as I've emphasised in the tute, but at the same time there's a lot more to say, which I've tried to do (as usual)!!!!! So I hope you find it useful, and I wanted to have the idea available at TSR! Here's the preview pic:

Poll Cat

Yep, give me a toy and I'll do something stooopid with it.

Today, we've been given polls. Ooh lovely! Now I can ask you for your opinions on anything and everything! And do nothing useful whatsoever with the results! I've started off with an easy question for you. Off you go!

Georgian Goods

So, coming next is Georgian Goods, a home business selling furniture. I built this lot for amythestfenix's Maxis Makeover Challenge in the forums. It's a makeover of 33 Gondola Way which is a horrible little building in Bluewater Village (apologies to whoever made this lot at Maxis but it IS! Perhaps it was conceived as a lot which would inspire a makeover - let's give them the benefit of the doubt ;-) )

Anyway, here's a couple more photos of the exterior - an overview of the lot (it's on a 3x1), showing the outdoor sculpture sales area, the employee bbq area and the pool:

And here's a detail of the pool and outdoor dining area:

Worry not, having nearly drowned a poor Sim during testing, I have moved the pool ladder so that Sims can actually get out of the pool... *evil cackle* .... you'd think the choice between meeting the Grim Reaper or having to climb through a hedge as you get out of the pool might be a bit clearer to your average Sim. (Though I admit that the hedge situation is not ideal.)

Last pic for now! Here's the logic area (for recreation) hidden behind the building:

Back soon with some interior shots ;-)

Homecrafter Fun!

So I found I can actually run Homecrafter with the pitiful amount of RAM I have at the moment! o/

Expect a lot of walls from me in the near future; I was browsing the Dulux website for colours to paint my real flat, and got inspired! :D

B.

EDIT!

Some of the sets I'm gonna be uploading soon :D

What do you think? :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, and a safe holiday.
