Windows and Doors

After all this time I decided it was time for all the Maxis Windows and Doors to match in colours I like, so I have set myself the long task of recolouring them all, I have done quite a few and some of them will be available in the next week or so.

New Houses

I have 3 new houses coming up, 1 is a cute little starter fully furnished called Chiltern, the second is 1 Marina Drive, this one was built for a batchelor sim I have in my game and is very modern and the 3rd is 2 Marina Drive a 3 storey home with a seperate busines premises, very modern again.

Me & Katie on wedding day 6/8/02

About Me

What can I say about me that won't bore people to tears? I'm a retired/disabled Radiologic Technologist. I live in a semi rural/suburban community in Maine, USA. I have a 17 year old cat named Tia and two pugs, Yoda & Ivy. My husband and I have been married for 4 years, and with him came a WONDERFUL stepdaughter. My stepdaughter, Katie, got me into The Sims to begin with. I played The Sims 1 all the time, but I never created anything...I just built a LOT of houses. I discovered TSR during that time and used to download many things from here. When The Sims 2 came out, I decided to try my hand at creating floors in the Homecrafter Plus program and PSP8. I have always loved playing with graphics on the computer and soon I was not just cropping images for floors, but was building walls and floors from "scratch"; putting together many components and processes to come up with a whole new image, creating whole matching sets of walls and floors. I would eventually like to learn to recolor and perhaps even to create objects, but for now I'm still having a whole lot of fun with my walls and floor sets. Coming soon to TSR will be a marble tiled set in all my colors, a glass tile set in 14 different colors and a set of natural stone floors and wallpapers to match. Also coming is something a little different, a set of unique Victorian walls and floors...made from "scratch" by me, something I have been working on for quite awhile.

New Meshes

Well, it took some time, but here a message from me. I'm back on meshing. Didn't get any inspiration after my dog died. But we have a new puppy, so the inspiration is back. Here is a preview of my recolor set "Las Vegas". It contains some recolors from the new meshes from the sets "New York" and "Dallas". Have fun playing...

Surgery

I had knee surgery last week (March 22)--so I've not been around for a few days. Everything went well and I'm just taking some time to recuperate. I have some new sets coming up that are inspired by Evi's fairy lots!

Coming soon to a monitor near you,,,

The Make Mine Music Bedroom! I'd like to thank Waverly for allowing her beautiful meshes to be recolored :) This set just went perfectly with the wallpaper that I made!!

Now YOU do some stairs - it's easy!

You've seen my stairs (you'd better have seen them - they're here) and, if you usually do as you're told, you will already be admiring my technical prowess at being able to bring you a whole range of new modular stairs colours.

[ insert your suitably admiring murmurs of appreciation here ]

However, in an exceedingly rare fit of generosity, I've written a step by step tutorial on how you can make your own. PLEASE do not tell anyone that I've been generous; I have a reputation to uphold and I don't wish for it to be undermined.

How to recolour modular stairs

So, who can use this tutorial? Basically, it is aimed at people who make NOTHING. Yes, that's right: if you've never heard of SimPE and, in fact, even Bodyshop and Homecrafter have you quaking in your boots - then this is for you. If you ARE an experienced recolourer or object creator, or if you've ever downloaded and installed custom modular stairs in your game before, you'll find this a breeze. But the rest of you can rest assured that this tutorial has been written for you especially! It describes how to download and install SimPE, clone some stairs, how to recolour them and, finally, how to install them in your game. No experience necessary.

Wildness

Greetings, all. It has been a rather busy couple of weeks at the Fionn household. First of all, I am happy to announce that the mock trial team that I sponsor won our state competition, and I'm pretty pumped about it. Information can be found at www.tba.org for any interested.

Secondly, I took the family on vacation, and it was amazing. We had a great time, even though the temperatures in Florida this last week were not as accommodating as we would have liked.

But, I digress.

I think I enjoyed this mesh more than any I have done so far because it really hails back to what I enjoy doing the most...glamour styles. Some guys do anime very well, some guys do short cuts, but I loves me some glamour.

Of course, it has the animations and stuff, which look better than New Wave's because there isn't the darkened underlay to the texture.

Here are some things I figgur'd out this time around:

1) As each number next to an assigned mesh part represents a transparency value, you will find that I only used values 15,11, and 13 for this mesh (avoiding 5,7, and 9). This was to maintain consistency of the texture transparency value throughout the mesh. The game has no problem with this, as long as the textures for 5, 7, and 9 are maintained. I am sure that I could edit those in the package file, but I'm not gonna until I'm more comfortable with that format.

2) Too many hairstyles of this ilk look "flat." They appear hollow, with little shape in the inside of the mesh, including my earlier ones. I attempt to rectify this by applying some depth panels to the back of the hair at the bulge of the cranium, down to the end of the mesh. The net effect, I think anyway, is visually pleasing.

3) Animations are hard to do. They consume most of my time. Getting it right is trial and error. Maxis doesn't use the full potential of their available joints, and that's probably because there are some compromises involved. When doing animations, you have to balance an appealing movement with practical use in the game. I ask these questions when doing an animation:

a) Does it appear to have odd breaking points most of the time?
b) Does it look natural; are any movement exaggerations realistic?
c) Is the effect worth it?

That last question is the real kicker: will an animation totally ruin a good hairstyle. I did one a few months back called "Peekaboo," that was a beautiful hairstyle, but the way the animations were applied looked really good about 1/2 of the time. The rest of the time, it looked awful. I have since fixed the animations for myself, but that was a case in which I should have held it back until I had worked it out a little better.

I go for 75%. That's a rough estimate, but I try to take the hair through as many animations as possible, and then get a sense of whether or not the overall impression of the animation is that it would look good in most animated situations. Then, I make tweaks to the joint assignment to compensate for some strangeness, and then do it again. This is the most time-consuming part of the process. I sure as heck hope it is worth it.

Today is my oldest daughter Tara's birthday. She's 9. I'm extremely old.

New Shelfs

I am working on new shelfs for OFB. I have uppdated the rag doll so they can be placed on the shelfs

Time For Spring!

It's been a long winter for some of us. I know it has been for me! It's officially Spring and soon we will see the flowers peeking their tiny heads from beneath their winter slumber. None too soon, either! I thought some sim babies and toddlers might enjoy a breath of fresh air in their nursery, as well. As always, these items are TSRAA, and can be included in lots that you upload here to TSR, without having to worry about giving me credit. Enjoy!

Whew! Victorian Bath Finished!

The Victorian Bath set is scheduled for release on March 25th. Part I is the furnishing/plumbing; high tank toilet, roman tub, free-standing sink, vanity cabinets, etc., while Part II are the decorative pieces to "pretty it up."

Part II is scheduled for release on March 26th. This is my first bathroom set, but hopefully not my last. It was a true learning experience, but everything works the way it should, LOL.

Your Sims can now relax, enjoy, and spend time in a "Vintage Victorian" bathroom.

Dark Divas

*Edited to add preview pic* As you can see, I've been trying to alternate between heads and skins, so this next set from me will be heads. This set will be called "Dark Divas" since they are female, and in the dark skintone. I'll pop back in later to edit this entry when I have a preview pic of the set for you.

Welcome to my world

You have no idea just how excited I was to receive the invitation to host my own mini-site and I would like thank Steve and the team for creating the awesome TSR in the first place and allowing me to vent my creations on an unsuspecting sims community. I would also like to thank everyone who has ever downloaded any of my items (whatever possessed you?!) and I hope you continue to enjoy my work.

Luv,
Hatshepsut

A BigThanks To All

Wow! It's like winning a major award, a leg lamp, a Golden Globe, an Oscar!

Hell-o and welcome everyone to my mini site. I create walls, floors and a few residential lots, but creating the walls is one of my favorite things to make. Take a look around and of course, if you have a request, drop me a line!

Nancy

Thank you Sims Resource!

I wanted to take a second on here and say thank you to The Sims Resource for making these wonderful mini-sites! They're so much easier to use than the regular profile, and I find that it fits me better to have my own colors!! Thanks to y'all too for all your downloads!

Work in progress - OFB matching windows

I think Maxis didn't do a thorough job on a new set of full wall size windows in OFB. As that design is quite familiar to me, I'm working on expanding the set with matching short windows and also 2-tile windows. Will include some bright-less recolors as well. My next project would be fitting the blinds into these windows as well. I even have a name for a new set - Helios Maxis

Hi everyone

Hi everyone, just adding a blog entry, not that I have anything to enter, but I wanted to try this out anyway

Farmer's Market

I have updated the Product cart, Produce display and preserve display to work with OFB (they were incompatible due to changes made to produce bins with OFB- now a 2 state objects- with full and empty bins to allow restocking). Do note they now require OFB and will no longer work without this EP.you can find them here

I Wish...

...that I had the words to express how very honored I feel, and excited I am, that I have been offered my own Mini Site here at TSR. I'm trying to learn my way around my new area, sweeping the dust from the corners, trying to get things "just so" before I upload some new things to share with all of you. Thanks so much for allowing me that opportunity, and I thank you in advance for your patience as I get things up and going.

XOXO

Walls Etc Collections

Well, My latest craze is Walls & what simply to put with them. Hope you enjoy! Barbie is done, working on more for girls, boys, kids, etc.

Arcadia Living Room - Black & White

My new recolor set "Black & White" Design. Mesh from BetterBeSim. Coming Soon :D

Fashion Shop Sets

Hi again! A shop mesh set will be published in a few days, I also made four more color options for each of the single items. So, there will be 5 new sets, one mesh set and four recolor sets. You will see something not included in these sets but they are showing in the pictures, I mean the shoes. Those are what I'm going to publish next. But I'm still working on them, I will do the meshes again to make them looks better and to be not 'heavy' to load. Hope you like the new shop set!

Spring Flowers

Today I've submitted a set of formal gowns in colours inspired by Spring flowers (well, 21 March was officially the first day of Spring, although I know that's hard to believe). Again I've used Rosemat's beautiful Giverny mesh from Pronupsims (www.pronupsims.net). The dresses were inspired by a gorgeous formal gown I saw at www.eDressMe.com designed by Jovani.

Shelved!

The following two sets of objects have now been revised so that they can be placed on 'Open For Business' shelves...

Medieval Barrels

Garden Junk

I bet you're delighted about this - especially the garden junk!

'Schinkel' Gas Lanterns

So I found a new toy to play with: I figured how to create lights. Yay! My first series are vintage lights for outdoor usuage. The park gas lanterns will be available for download later this week.

Update - ID conflict

Thanks to Treowe for alerting me, one of Dincer's objects, dh-biedermeier-endtable, is conflicting with one of my Lafenetre windows, 2-tile halfround diagonal. This happens, though my ID range is registered and not random generated. I've changed the IDs for both straight and diagonal version of that window, you can download them from this page. This will allow you to use both Dincer's table and my windows in your game.

New Sets

Today I have uploaded some new clothing sets. Grizzelda has created a lot of new meshes. So I have recolored her new babydoll and formal dress meshes. I hope you will like them. I think the spring should finally arrive us because of this I have created also some colorful skirts. Regards Sophia

Grave mistake

I have to concede defeat - again.

Businesses are not for me. Proffitt & Son (and wife and child) have managed to sell just ONE coffin and two flower arrangements, despite the hard-sell by two gold-chip sales assistants who don't give up easily. SURELY, she'd just love a coffin!

Though it's not at all surprising to find that things are going from bad to worse as Son of Proffitt and wife are still not taking the business of undertaking very seriously...

Most business is to be made in the Chapel Of Rest where the ticket machine - sorry, DONATION BOX now racks up $100 a time as customers jive to ragtime riffs. That's when Proffitt Senior is not snoozing in the coffin!!!

So, another failure for me. Therefore, another business up for grabs. It ships out at TSR on 20 March 2006.

If you think you might find pillow fights around gravestones, coffins for sale, a forgotten crypt and the odd party in a Chapel of Rest somewhat offensive, it's best you steer clear of it. I'm quite tasteless, really.

Fireplace

I have made a tiled oven for the Victorian veek. This is a kind of fireplace that is common in old houses here. They are better in keeping worm than regular fireplaces because the warm air has chanels cirkeling inside so it gives away its heat before going out through the chimney. I love them so I had to make some even if many people dont know what it is. (I guess it wont get so many downloads but I enjoyed making them)

work hole

Sorry for the low creations at the last few days! I was not at home so I can't create anything! Now I will do my best to make a lot of new items for you! I hope you will like it! Tomorrow I will start with the new work at new stuff! It will come soon! Regards Sophia

Comments

You can now leave comments in the blogs! I'd like to know what kind of walls you like the best. Thanks, judi

I'm Retired

I was wondering how to get back to my mini site page. The links were not bringing me back, but looks like it's all working fine now.

As some of you probably know I have retired as a Featured Artist here at TSR. I've enjoyed my time here, and have been grateful for the time I had as an FA, but life gets in the way and we sometimes have to make detours. I was once heavily into sculpting and handcrafts, and since the Sims 2 first came out, I have abandoned all my previous artistic persuits in favor of designing for Sims 2. The time has come for me to rediscover those forgotten pleasures of creating with my hands instead of just a mouse. Rest assured I will still be submitting content here. Just not as frequently. Take care and I shall be around.

Vintage Victorian Bath

A sneak peek of my new project, "Vintage Victorian Bath." The finished set will probably look very similar to the preview pics, but I am still tweaking and adding pieces to the set.

WaterLily Add-On Released March 19th

WaterLily Add-ons set is scheduled for publication on March 19th, set includes two new recolors of my Ebony and Iced Teal Small Portraits Mesh.

Happy St Patty's!

Hi All! HAppy St Patty's Day! I uploaded a few little goodies for your Simmies to wear to celebrate St patty's day! Hope you and your Simmies enjoy them, I had a fun time making them!

Romance Bedroom - Green

Recolor of BetterBeSim Romance Bedroom. Coming Soon !!

Ouch!

Ack sorry chaps. I promised you a nice new set then held back on you. But I really do have a good excuse! After posting my last erm ah well post I put my back out! So my apologies, I'll put it up now but just so you know I am in agony while I do it - hopefully that might make you all feel better for my slackness LOL!

And?!

So, you think it's cheap.

Find a green clover graphic and slap it over all my screenshots for St Patrick's Day! Make something green (anything) and slap a clover on it. There. Job done.

Well, I like it.

And the glasses are NOT tacky. People who say THAT sort of thing are usually the envious sort who'd do ANYTHING for a pair just like them! For all YOU know, they could be a very EXPENSIVE pair of tacky glasses!

Coming Soon!

Water Lily Add-ons...coming soon! I just finished the recolors for the Water Lily Add-ons set, and I hope to have it published very soon.
