Vanilla Girl Lookbook

Welcome back to a brand new lookbook here at The Sims Resource! Today we’re creating a lookbook around the recently trending vanilla girl aesthetic.

With all the trendy aesthetics out there, what exactly is the vanilla girl aesthetic all about? According to Elle, the aesthetic “draws inspiration from Scandi minimalism, monochrome dressing, and layer-loving It Girls like Hailey Bieber and Matilda Djerf”. A lot of Vanilla Girl looks incorporate classic pieces that most people have, like tan pants, oversized sweaters, and white sneakers, along with a love for Uggs. That’s right–Uggs! I used to be an Ugg-hater, but I’m taking inspo from the Vanilla Girls and pulling mine out of my closet very soon. Let’s get into the looks to see what the vanilla girl aesthetic is all about!

Comfy but Cute

This outfit is made up of a lot of the staples of the Vanilla Girl look. An oversized sweater and tan trousers are easy pieces, but I purposely chose versions of these staples that felt a little more sleek. The sweater is shorter in the front, allowing for waist definition, while the pants are high waisted and wide-leg to help heighten the silhouette. The shoes are really cute sandals, which are my favorite things to pair with workwear–they just feel cool and grown-up!

I wanted to include close-ups in this blog because I think a lot of the nicest parts of this look are in the fine details. A sleek updo is an easy way to make an outfit look cool (and get your hair out of your face, though I did add some babyhairs as well). Simple hoop earrings are another easy choice that you don’t have to think too hard about, but make you look like you did! Onto makeup–I kept it really simple, which matches most of the photos I’ve seen. Blush, eyelashes, eyeliner, eyebrows, and lipstick–all subtle and fresh. I also added some moles and a nosemask to this Sim to make her a little more unique, apropos of aesthetic.

Cozy Days

I want this outfit in my life immediately. I feel like I cannot emphasize it enough, this outfit is like my dream for working from home. It’s comfy and cozy and soft (presumably) while also looking sleek and put together! Maybe the vanilla girls have the right idea when it comes to fashion–keeping it simple with a few touches of elevated fashion sounds like the fashion direction I should be moving in! Even the shoes are the perfect combination of casual but upscale.

I really love the little details of this aesthetic as well. The eyeshadow in this look is shiny but not sparkly, which draws attention without being too extreme. The earrings are absolutely adorable, balancing a larger scale with the simple chain detailing. The rest of the makeup–eyeliner, eyebrows, blush, eyelashes, and lip gloss–continues this theme. Clean and simple is the name of the Vanilla Girl game. I really love how the hair, skirt, and top fit into this as well. And don’t forget a sleek and simple manicure to finish the look!

A Bit of Gray

This outfit continues the vanilla girl trend, though I did make sure to throw a bit of gray into the look to help break up some of the white tones! I like white as much as the next girl, but as with the tan trousers in one of the earlier looks, gray jeans just add something else. Some looks include light blue jeans, but I think the gray jeans are a little more unique (and stay within the neutral palette!) I really love the platform loafers in this look, they’re a style I’ve been digging a lot this year. The jacket is cool too, it sort of has mom-vibes–but in a cool way!

A lot of the general themes I showed you earlier have stayed true here. Simple makeup is here again (eyeliner, eyeshadow, eyelashes, blush, and lip gloss), though I have to say I love how this trend skews towards scented lip glosses. It just brings me back to my childhood! Easy, natural hair is another tenet of the Vanilla Girls, it seems. A lot of the looks tend to have the “it looks like I woke up like this” vibe, which inspired my choice for these big, loose waves. There are so many great heatless curl methods online, so I like to think this Sim could have used a tutorial to achieve this look. I finished the ensemble with shiny nails, a stack of rings, and some custom mouth corners.

Athleisure Moment

This look came together almost entirely by accident. It was honestly going to be a workwear look, but something about it looked too formal (probably the dresses I was trying out). Once I found this easy, knee-length number, I knew it was the one. From there, I realized that one of my favorite things to do is dress down something sort of fancy with sneakers or a zip-up hoodie, so I did just that! I think she looks very effortless (and also pretty comfortable). Peep the socks, too–comfy socks are more important than people talk about.

You know the deal by this point when it comes to Vanilla Girl details. Makeup is easy: eyeliner, eyeshadow, blush, eyelashes, lipstick–all very simple and naturalistic. Honestly, if you wanted to go without makeup with this kind of look, it would be totally cool as well. I love the natural makeup that’s been trending! Even if it’s easier to put makeup on a Sim than irl. This hair is so pretty, I saw it and I knew it had to be part of this look. I completed the look with a dainty necklace (yay for dainty jewelry!), some nails, and hoop earrings. My Sim was customized with a nose mask and mouth corners as well.
