This includes even… Y2K Fashion In The Sims 4.  Y2K Fashion is making a strong comeback this year… or maybe it just never went out of style??? Regardless if you are into trends this is one you should totally check out!

What is Y2K Fashion

So what is Y2K fashion?  Well… if you think way back to the late 90s and early 2000s to the low rider flared jeans and brightly colored crop tops… that is Y2K fashion.  Some of the most iconic movies and shows that really illuminate the Y2K style are Mean Girls, Winx, Clueless, and Bratz. The movie Clueless in particular is a cult-classic film and is still very popular to this day.

5 Tips to Easily Achieve the Y2K look

Looking to try out this Y2K style on your Sims?  Well, let me help you out with these five tips to make your journey to the Y2K side complete.

1 – Use Low Rise Pants or Mini Skirts

Links – Top, Bottoms, Shoes

One of the trademark elements of Y2K fashion is the bottoms.  Generally, there are two options in this trend; Flared lowcut pants or short skirts.  These elements are usually paired with crop tops, cardigans, or tanks.

2 – Mix Pastels and Plaid

Color is very important within Y2K fashion.  Pink, blue, neons, yellows, aqua, and chrome are all pretty big colors within this trend.  It is also not uncommon to see them mixed between the colors.  Plaid and pastels (and faux fur, fringes, and lace) are also commonly mixed together to create that ultimate Y2K iconic Clueless or Mean Girls look.

3 – Don’t Be Afraid to Show Some Skin

Sim CC is never short on crop tops, lacey tops, and lingerie-like clothing.  This is why it is relatively easy to have Y2k Fashion in The Sims 4.  Y2K fashion does show some skin, torsos, shoulders, legs… sometimes all at once. Of course, if this isn’t your thing you can always alter the look to be a bit more conservative.

4 – Don’t forget to… ACCESSORIZE

Again no shortage of CC here… accessories are very important to the Y2K look.  Y2K accessories include; shiny materials, hair clips, flowers, butterflies, colorful sunglasses, and way more. Basically, if it is shiny, colorful, or chunky… it counts!

5 – Use Blue… Yellow… and Pink Makeup

Ok here is where the Y2K trend goes in a different direction… makeup.  Now think of those iconic movies like Clueless and Mean Girls… what does the makeup look like… pretty modest.  Pastels are totally ok but makeup isn’t super thick or what I would consider a statement piece.  You can with blue eyeshadow of course create that, but this was generally the only bold makeup in the Y2K era I personally saw.  Generally, it is a little pop of color, nice clean highlights and contour, modest liner, and glossy pink or pinkish lips.

So why Y2K fashion in The Sims 4? Why not! I look at it as the more custom content (CC) the merrier.  I don’t know about you all but I love trying to create movie or trend looks, so to me Y2K CC is great! Even if I never really fell into the trend of Y2K I still use the CC!

Alright Y2K IRL for me is terrifying… I lived it… Did not really do this style I was more in the goth/punk scene for fashion.  But I know this style.  The traditional style of Y2K with the plaids and pastels my group of friends classified as preppy, however little did we know that twenty years later this style would still be kicking.  Not that I hate it… I just I’m not into pastels… at all. *looks around the office.  Ok, maybe I made a poor judgment call on my pink office.

I can’t say it enough that Clueless and Mean Girls were iconic movies that most definitely helped the Y2K style become super popular.  Today both of the movies are still loved and Y2K fashion is still around and currently trending! And remember “on Wednesdays we wear Pink!”
