Rumors vs Facts
- First of all, what's TS2?
TS2 is a sequel to the best selling game of all time, The Sims. If you've ever played The Sims, you understand how addictive it can be! Sims 2 is likely to be 10x as addictive, considering Sims will actually have DNA, be capable of multi-tasking, live in a new 3D enviroment, be completely customizable as well as age & eventually die. No more groundhog day (Repeatative scenarios)! - Is TS2 an expansion pack?
No! The Sims 2 is a completely seperate game & is not compatible with The Sims or any of its expansions. - What are the requirements for The Sims 2?
Though nothing is official @ this point, some preliminary requirements were put up in mid-September & are as follows:
-128MB of RAM for Windows 98, 2000, or ME (256MB of RAM For Windows XP).
-Graphics: GeForce or Radeon Series or Better.
-CPU: 600MHz (if you have one of the video cards above). Those who have less powerful cards will need a more powerful CPU. Those who do not have a powerful video card, or a lower end model, you will most likely need a 1.5GHz processor.
-Monitor Resolution: 800x600 minimum, 1024x768 recommended (Lower performance machines are advised to run in lower resolution as usual). - When is TS2 coming out?
Maxis has said the first quarter of 2004, meaning sometime in the first three months. Time.com has been quoted as saying: "... The Sims 2, due for release in February." - When is The Sims 2 coming out for Apple computers?
There has been no mention of it yet but you can always check Aspyr Media for information. Either way, we'll let you know when we hear something. - Is TS2 a game for PS2/XBOX or the computer?
TS2 is a game for the computer. Maxis said in an interview that the PS2 version was already like a 1.5 version of The Sims. - How many stages of life will the Sims have?
Six stages! They will start out as infants, move on to toddlers, then to children, teenagers, adults, & finally, old age. - How long will each stage last?
The exact time of each stage is not set yet. We do know that the toddler stage will be the shortest & the adult stage will be the longest. - What if I don't want my Sims to die?
It will be possible to turn off the aging process. - If you're playing with one family will the other families still age & grow?
From what we've heard, your Sims will not grow when you are not playing them. - Do Sims need special attention at certain ages?
Yes! Well of course, but not what you might expect. Teenagers will get hungry faster, require lots of social contact, as well as need more fun in their lives. The elderly will require alot more comfort, & depending on their lifescore, they may need even more comfort (if it's a low lifescore). - Wait, what's a lifescore?
The lifescore is like your Sims memory. Every event they experience in their life will factor into their future. Things like having a child, losing a parent early in life, recieving your first kiss, or not recieving enough love & attention as a child all have an impact on your Sims lifescore. If your Sim doesn't accomplish/recieve these things (& many others unknown), their lifescore will be very low. If they don't accomplish any of what are referred to as 'Life's Big Moments', they will lead a very boring life. The lifescore will also depend how far up the career ladder they get.
Although your Sims with low lifescores may be considered 'boring' from a Sims view, it will give a Sim with the low lifescore different actions than one with a high lifescore would have. For example: A Sim with a high lifescore may choose to flirt with the ladies, though a Sim with a low lifescore can only choose 'hit on'! - Will there be more ways to advance in your career besides 'Life's Big Moments'?
There will be 'Short Missions' (which could be experiences as LBM's) like "Invite your boss over for dinner!" If your boss enjoys himself, leaves content & full, your advancement will come alot sooner, where as if your kids bother him & the kitchen burns down... Well, you won't be getting anywhere fast! - Will there be weekends?
Yes! There will be weekends & 'free days' for things like surgery, or maybe just a break. - Surgery? Does this mean there will be a hospital?
Yes! There will be a hospital, but I'm not quite sure you will actually be able to follow any Sims who have to go to it. Besides birth, it will also be used for operations & possibly more. - Birth? Will Sims actually get pregnant? Will they still have to kiss to have a baby?
Yes! Sims will get pregnant but instead of kissing, a 'play' feature can be used in a bed or hot tub! If a Sim is pregnant, her belly will show it! When it's time to have the baby, the mother will leave in an ambulance & return a couple days later. - Can they have twins?
Some say yes, some say no! I'm not sure, but I've heard alot more yes than no. =) - Will teenagers be able to get pregnant?
No! Teens cannot pregnant as they are not allowed to "play". - Will they still choose partners based on interest?
The Sims in TS2 will be alot smarter than the original Sims. Besides interests, Sims will also choose their partners based on looks & social experience! - Will Sims actually get married? Can they get divorces?
From the sounds of the most recent articles, yes, your Sims can get married & divorced! We're not sure how this will take place exactly. - Can an adult Sim date a teen Sim?
No! But, an elderly Sim can date an adult Sim. This is the only exception when it comes to dating. Elderly male Sims can concieve children if they are with an adult female Sim though an elderly female Sim cannot concieve children. - Since there will be children, does that mean you'll have to potty train them & change diapers?
You betcha'! =P - Can you choose what school your Sim kids will attend?
Yes! The better the school, the better the education! You could even send each child to a different school. - Can you kick your offspring out when they reach adulthood?
Yes! Once they're adults (It may be teens) they can go out & make a name for themselves, as well as start their own relationships & families. - Will siblings still do weird stuff like fall in love with each other?? (Ewww!! =P)
No!! They'll be able to tell family from friends now! =D On top of this, they will also recognize the difference between Mommy, Uncle, & Grandma (etc!). - Will there be a community area?
On the topic of community lots, there will be places for Sims to buy new clothes & food! They will also have the option of owning a 'vacation home'.
To expand on the vacation home, that does not mean it will be like The Sims Vacation expansion. It is simply a second home owned by your Sim family. - What is the Create-a-Sim tool? Is there going to be a demo of it?
The 'Create-a-Sim', or CAS for short is a tool that will allow you to completely customize every aspect of your Sims facial features as well as their personality! This will allow you to make any Sim you want! Even yourself! Time.com can be quoted (again) as saying that you will be able to customize everything from the color of their eyes to their hair accessories, if you want them! Every tidbit you create as your Sims personality can be manipulated by their experiences (Life's Big Moments) once in the game. And yes, there is to be a demo release of it in November 2003! - What about clothing customization?
Clothing articles will now be seperate from each other! Meaning that a pair of pants will be seperate from a shirt (stockings seperate from shoes, etc), creating alot more ways to mix & match! - Can you customize hair/make-up, too?
Yes! In the Create-a-Sim program you will be able to change hair color & style, & apply make-up to your sims. Things like make-up will not be counted as DNA that passes on, it is simply something you can add to your Sims. Nobody knows if you'll be able to do this once you put your Sim in the game though there has been speculation of a vanity mirror that was in the PS2 version of The Sims. - I heard you can spy on neighbours. Does that mean that you'll be able to see the rest of the neighbourhood from the house you're playing at?
Not necessarily! You will be able to spy on neighbours (& get in trouble for doing so!) with a telescope that you can buy. I'm not sure if this means you'll see the next house over. Most likely, that won't be the case, as you wouldn't need the telescope then, would you? =) - How many Sims can live on one lot?
The number is still 8. It's a good idea to live with other generations if you can as it will help you to create a bond with them. The better you know a family member, the more they'll give to you when they die. How awful is that? =P Having the grandparent's live with you is also handy as they can take care of the children & recieve retirement money, helping with the bills. - Will objects age?
Yes! Objects will age over time just like your Sims & it will show over time. You will have the option of replacing or re-upholstering the furniture, which will be alot cheaper than replacing. - Will there be more than 2 floors?
Yes! There will be 3 buildable floors which include an attic. - Will you be able to place objects on diagonal walls?
You can place windows & doors on a diagonal! There has been nothing officially & no evidence of this option being available to furniture though. Hopefully putting doors/windows on a diagonal will add the illusion that everything else (couches/etc) is, too! =) - Will Sims be able to go into debt?
It's not completely clear, but from a few screenshots, you can see that they are more than likely in debt. - Will there still be cheat codes?
Most likely there will be. Almost every game on the market has cheats!
