The Sims 4 August 25 Update Is Here – Here’s What Changed
Sul Sul, Simmers! Today is the release of the August base game update. Players can expect improvements to the Marketplace, new size-inclusive styles, and more afro-textured hair! Players can expect two new kits to drop as well. Let’s get into it!
Image Cache
The new Image Cache aims to improve loading times and reduce image downloads while on the Marketplace. Image Cache will reduce the time it takes to view the Marketplace. If you run into issues with Marketplace images, you can manually clear the image cache. Opening the cheat console and entering “clearonlinethumbnailcache true” can help resolve issues you encounter in the Marketplace.
While PlayStation and XBOX players cannot directly view the cache, PC and Mac users can view the cache by going to “Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\onlinethumbnailcache.” After each Marketplace visit, the system maintains the cache for 14 days.
New Inclusive Styles

Expect a new set of clothing in Create a Sim after updating! The Sims Team is pushing body diversity forward in this base‑game drop by adding new CAS assets designed to flatter every Sim. The drop contains 6 assets, such as a dress, tops, cardigans, shirts, and slacks. Along with the new items come 5 new Starter Sims!
Every Sim is built to highlight the new outfits, and players can download them from the Gallery. Go and download them to give those Sims their own story!
New Afro-Textured Hair

Hair is a powerful way to express your Sim, and that extends into the world of the Sims. “After you update and load in, you’ll find new afro‑textured hair waiting for you in Create a Sim. The newest style is a whimsical, sculpted afro inspired by hair‑sculpting artistry.”
The Sims Team is all about diversity and inclusivity in this update! Be a cosmic beauty with this new hairdo!
Two New Kits

Look forward to 2 new kits: The Sims 4 Mean Girls Capsule Kit and The Sims 4 Clueless Capsule Kit. Are you looking for that glam Y2K look? The Sims 4 Mean Girls Capsule Kit will have you wearing pink on Wednesdays!

Are you more of a 90’s babe? Don’t worry! The Sims Team has that for you too. Chic plaid fits and trendsetting outfits from Clueless will have your Sims feeling like they’re the main character! These kits will be available on August 27th, 2026! That’s so fetch!
Bug Fixes & Updates
The layout of the pages in the Marketplace will display correctly when entering from Create A Sim after installing a new pack through Quick Buy. For Console players, a few issues have been addressed. The Sims Team has addressed an issue in which PlayStation crashes would occur during game launch.
When scrolling with the Right Stick, the controls will no longer get stuck when browsing the Marketplace from Create a Sim! Additionally, the controls will no longer stick when reviewing the Pack Details in the Marketplace.
Wrapping It Up
That’s it for today’s update! Don’t forget to back up your save files and mods before updating! If you’d like to read what Electronic Arts officially posted for patch notes, keep reading below!
Sul sul,
With this update, we are bringing improvements to your Marketplace browsing experience. Previously, Marketplace images were downloaded every time you browsed. Now, they’re cached after the first download, so we’ll only download images that are new or have changed.
Along with performance improvements, Create a Sim (CAS) is getting some stylish additions, including new clothing especially designed to celebrate Sims of every size, plus an out-of-this-world hairstyle.
And of course, we are bringing some important bug fixes with this update.

What’s New?
Image Cache
The new Image Cache looks to improve loading times and reduce downloading of images across the Marketplace on subsequent visits, reducing the time needed to do a little window shopping or picking up that new Maker Pack you see everyone talking about.
If you run into any issues with Marketplace images, you can manually clear the image cache by opening the cheat console and running the cheat command:
- clearonlinethumbnailcache true
While our PlayStation and XBOX Simmers can’t peek under the hood at the cache directly, on PC/Mac you can view this cache by navigating to:
- Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\onlinethumbnailcache
The cache will also be automatically maintained 14 days after the last Marketplace visit and remove unused images and free up space on your storage device, and while the cache has an upper limit of 250MB the space the cache uses will generally be lower.
New Size-Inclusive Styles
This base game drop enhances body diversity representation in Create a Sim by adding a new set of CAS assets designed to flatter Sims of all shapes and sizes.
This drop contains 6 new CAS assets—from a versatile dress, tops, jeans, cardigans, shirts, and slacks—along with 5 new Styled Looks that use these items to help jump-start your outfit inspiration.
We’re also adding 5 new Starter Sims, each created to showcase these new outfits and clothing options. In addition to finding these Sims in CAS, they will also be available on the Gallery so you can easily bring them into your worlds and give them a story!
New Afro-Textured Hair
Hair is, and continues to be, a powerful part of self-expression, and we know how much it means to you all to see more styles and textures represented in the game.
Our newest hair addition is an afro-textured hairstyle inspired by the art of natural hair sculpting… and it’s giving whimsical, cosmic beauty with plenty of main-character energy! We had so much fun developing this look that we couldn’t stop dreaming up different Sims to wear it. Now it’s your turn! We can’t wait to see how you style it.
Two New Kits
Bring iconic fashion to your Sims with two new kits: The Sims 4 Mean Girls Capsule Kit and The Sims 4 Clueless Capsule Kit.
Channel teen royalty in glam Y2K looks inspired by Mean Girls, then serve totally iconic 90s style with chic plaid fits and trendsetting outfits from Clueless.
The Sims 4 Mean Girls Capsule Kit and The Sims 4 Clueless Capsule Kit will be available on August 27, 2026.
