EA Says Player Survey Data Directly Influenced The Sims 4 Create-a-Sim

EA has revealed that Sims 4 player feedback directly influenced a recent Create-a-Sim update.

The July 21 free base game update added eight new default Sims. It also introduced eight new culturally inspired accessories.

Now, EA has explained why it made those changes.

According to The Sims team, data from a player survey showed that some cultural groups needed better visual representation in the game.

Sims 4 Player Feedback Highlighted Gaps in CAS

EA says it ran a player survey earlier this year.

The results suggested that representation for certain cultural groups still had room to grow.

The team then looked at the existing Sims that appear when players first enter Create-a-Sim.

EA says the gaps it found matched what players had highlighted in the survey. The team soon began researching new Sims and accessories.

That gives us an interesting example of player survey data leading to a visible change in the base game.

Eight New Starter Sims Arrived in July

The July 21 update added eight new Starter Sims to Create-a-Sim.

EA designed them with influences from:

• Native American cultures
• South Asian cultures
• Caribbean cultures
• Latin American cultures

Each Sim also received a new accessory.

The accessories include turquoise jewelry, bangles, cowrie shell bracelets, and woven bracelets.

Players can encounter the new Sims when starting Create-a-Sim. EA also made them available through the Maxis Gallery.

EA Worked With Cultural Experts

The team didn’t rely on survey results alone.

EA says developers worked with both internal and external cultural experts while creating the new Sims.

That included support from EA’s Games for All team and SILA Consulting.

Developers also drew inspiration from their own backgrounds during the design process.

The goal was not simply to add eight new characters.

EA wanted to give players more options when creating Sims and telling stories from different cultural backgrounds.

More Free Representation Content Is Coming

This update also gave us another small piece of future Sims news.

EA says it plans to release more free content throughout 2026 that expands representation in the game.

That future content will include everyday clothing and Build/Buy items.

EA hasn’t revealed exactly what those items will be yet.

However, it means the July Starter Sims were not a one-off addition.

More free base-game content related to representation is already planned.

Player Surveys May Matter More Than We Think

EA regularly sends surveys to Sims players. However, we don’t always know what happens to the answers.

This time, the company has given us a clear example.

Sims 4 player feedback highlighted gaps in cultural representation. The team investigated those areas and created new base game content in response.

That doesn’t mean every survey request will eventually appear in the game.

Still, it’s a useful reminder that those long Sims questionnaires aren’t necessarily disappearing into a black hole.
