Room Reno #64: Rose Colored Bedroom

Welcome back to Room Reno #64 here at The Sims Resource! Today we’re helping a Sim who wants to turn the boring room she has into a pink paradise. Boring bedrooms will not stand in 2022, let’s get colorful! Let’s meet the Sim we’re helping.

Meet Jada!

Here’s Jada! You might recognize her from the Back-To-School CAS Showcase I posted a few weeks ago. Jada is by far one of the coolest Sims I’ve ever styled, and that’s not just because she has the haircut that all of my cool friends (and the cool girls on tiktok) have. I wish I could wear a wolf cut, but my hair would absolutely not sit the way it should, and I don’t have time to style it every day, so I’ll just be living vicariously through my very cool Sims for the rest of my days. Anyway! Jada is very cool, and she needs a very cool room to match, obviously.

She wants a room with a lot of pink, because she is a woman of culture and taste (I say this as someone whose room is themed pink and red, so take that with a grain of salt). While she likes lots of neons and bright colors in her clothes, Jada wants her room to skew more towards neutrals and pastels, since it’s a space of relaxation and unwinding for her after the rest of her day. Because of this, the main shade of pink in the room is going to be the ever classic millennial pink–the pink that’s essentially become a neutral, in this day and age. Let’s get planning!

The Before

This room is a weird combo of color and neutrals. The pops of yellow with the pastel blue are sort of a strange choice. I once watched a fashion tips video where the stylist mentioned pairing together colors by tone instead of just what goes with what, and I think that applies here. If the yellow dresser and closet were both a more muted tone, like pastel or even pale gold, both pieces would go better with the pale blue walls. It would also work if the walls were a deeper or brighter shade of blue. Anyway, that furniture is getting sold ASAP, but I wanted to touch on that aspect of styling because I think it can be really helpful to keep in mind when you’re working on builds.

I really like the bench at the end of the bed! That’s something I see a lot in real life but not as often in Sims builds, but I think that Sims builders should do it more often. It just looks nice and ties together a room! The walls are pretty sparse, though, and it makes the room feel very empty. You won’t hear any complaints about the wall height here, however! I might finally be converted to the medium wall height life–we’ll see if it sticks during future builds.

The Planning

The planning for this went smoother than usual. I know I do a lot of bedrooms in this series, so maybe it was that, but I also think I feel less intimidated now by big old rectangle rooms than I used to. Maybe this blog is just a testament to how much I’ve grown as a builder since I first started them, or maybe I just had a really lucky build today. I guess we’ll have to see as I keep on building! Anyway, I started with the bed, and I decided to put it along the side wall instead of along the front wall, where it was originally placed. It helps to divide the space a little more, plus it allowed me to add another big window to the side wall.

I don’t normally place TVs in bedrooms, but I decided to do it this time. Not only was there a lot of space for one, but it just felt right to have one. I’ve had rooms both with and without TVs, and having one can be really nice to fall asleep to (if you have a sleep mask, otherwise the bright light will absolutely keep me up all night). A desk and a dresser are less exciting than the TV addition, but I was really excited to use the new bedroom set from the high school pack. I still haven’t gotten to do a lot of the gameplay from the pack, but the furniture is *chef’s kiss* beautiful, and it might be replacing Dream Home Decorator as my favorite decor pack ever.

The After

This room feels like a culmination of all of my past bedroom builds, oddly enough. I didn’t go into this blog thinking that it would be a retrospective on my builds since I started Room Reno, but it very strangely turned out that this build is a mark of progress for me. It manages to be really cute and colorful without being overwhelming, as well as being functional for gameplay purposes, which can be hard to do sometimes. When you want a build to be cute and cluttered, making sure that Sims can use it is a lot harder than you’d think!

This room is like a perfect furniture marriage between the Dream Home Decorator stuff and the High School Years stuff, and I couldn’t be happier to see it! Hanging the clothes over the dresser wasn’t originally what I was going to do, but once I tried it I decided I liked it! It reminds me of when people keep all of their clothes on clothing racks if they need storage (By the way, if you do that, you are stronger than I. Keeping all of your clothes out, and having all of them look cute enough to display? Powerful).
