The Sims 4 Hotkeys & Shortcuts Every Player Should Know
Whether you’re new or a long-time player, remembering all the Sims 4 keyboard shortcuts in the game can be overwhelming. There are just so many tips and tricks to remember, especially as the game has grown. But don’t fret! We’re here to guide you on how to use your computer to its full potential in The Sims 4!
General Hotkeys
Hotkeys are a helpful way to navigate the game using your keyboard! If using your mouse just isn’t doing the job, then try using hotkeys for a change. It can be very helpful. So let’s delve into the controls you can use to open cheat controls, pause time, move your camera, and control your household.
Cheat Text Bar
One of the most important hotkeys a Sims 4 player should know is the one for opening the cheat console. Without knowing it, you can’t enter fun cheats like Motherlode! To open the cheat console, you simultaneously press Ctrl+Shift+C. Once it opens, you’ll see a bar at the top left of your screen. Now you’re free to enter all the cheats that you can find!
Pasuing and Game Speed
Time controls are another very important set of hotkeys. Is your Sim causing absolute chaos? Pause the game within seconds by using these hotkeys to take a breath. To pause the game, you can press either P or 0! To speed up time, press 1, 2, or 3. 1 is for regular speed, 2 is fast, and 3 is for ultra speed.
Switching Sims in your Household
You can even use hotkeys to interact with the UI in Live Mode. It can be helpful if you need to get to your Sim’s portrait quickly. By pressing the space bar or N, you can cycle through the Sims in your household. If you’re trying to find your Sim, you can press Enter to center the camera on the active Sim.
Build/Buy Hotkeys

Place Items Without the Grid Locking

Paired with a cheat like bb.moveobjects on, it gives you full creative freedom over where you want items.
Hide the Grid
Is that pesky grid getting on your nerves? Do you think you’d build better without it? Toggle the grid by pressing G. Sometimes building without a grid is so helpful!
Floor Tile Movement
Have you ever thought about toggling the floor tile to be a certain way? It’s possible! Ctrl+F lets you toggle the tile so it fits like a puzzle piece in your build!
