The Sims 4 Update Is Tomorrow: Back Up Your Mods and Saves Now

Sul Sul, Simmers! The next Sims 4 update is scheduled for tomorrow. What does this mean for mods? It’s expected to disrupt mods’ functionality, and The Sims Team urges players who use mods to be prepared. With every update, no matter how small, it is important to back up your saves and mods. If you’re new to the modding scene or just need a refresher, don’t worry, we’re here to help!

Backing Up Your Save Folder

As a Sims player, the most important thing to you is your saves. You’ve spent hours in them. Creating the perfect Sims, building beautiful lots, and bringing Sims’ stories to life. So of course, you need to protect them! It’s important to back up your saves often to prevent losing important data. Even if you’ve just bought a new DLC or installed a new mod, it’s a must to back up your saves! It’s important to do so because you are changing the file system structure of The Sims 4. How do I back up my save folder, you ask? Don’t worry, we’ll tell you!

We’ll explain the process for both Windows and Mac users. Let’s begin with how to do it on Windows. Locate My Documents and then open the Electronic Arts folder. Once you’ve navigated to the folder, find the The Sims 4 folder. Right-click on the folder and select Copy. You will then go to your Desktop or to a flash drive, and paste the The Sims 4 folder there by right-clicking and selecting Paste. Right-click on the folder and select Rename. Name it Sims 4 Backup or something similar to avoid accidentally deleting it. That’s it!

Now, we’ll go through the steps for Mac users. You will open Finder on your Dock and navigate to Documents. Open the Electronic Arts folder. Click on it once to select it. Next, you will press Command-C on your keyboard to copy the folder. Navigate back to your Desktop. Or a flash drive, if you wish. You will then right-click on the desktop or flash drive and select Paste Item. Rename the folder to Sims 4 Backup.

The Process for Mods

To back up your mods, the process is extremely similar. It’s a good idea to back up both to help you keep up with your important files. It’s recommended that, if you use a number of mods, you organize them. Doing so within your Mods folder and on a spreadsheet will certainly save you down the line. Trust us. Before we took the time to organize our mods, update day was agony!

It’s wise not to update your game immediately if you have mods, as they will not be ready to update on the same day. It takes time for modders to update their mods for each patch. It’s important to always be patient with them as they work to update. Playing in offline mode will allow you to continue playing until the mods are ready for an update.

How To Play in Offline Mode

To prevent a Sims 4 update, you can also play in Offline Mode, and it’s really quite simple to go into. Navigate to the EA app on your desktop. Ensure that you are logged in. Once logged in, click on the 3 horizontal lines in the top-left corner. Select Go Offline. Then confirm that you are sure. The app will then restart, and you will be in offline mode. It’s important to note that you should only open The Sims 4 through the EA app using this method. If you try to open The Sims 4 through the desktop icon, it will force the game to open in the normal online mode.
