So you are now playing the Sims, but where do you go to find help with Sims? In a world full of resources on the internet and loaded with technology, there are a lot of resources. It can be confusing and overwhelming if you encounter a bug or an issue while playing the Sims. This blog is to help you find the best and quickest resolution to your issue so you can get back to Simming.
What If Something Goes Wrong?
So, where do you start when something goes wrong with your Sims? Don’t panic, as hard as it is; take a breath and try to figure out the issue. Ask yourself if you have installed any recent CCs or Mods. If you did, take them out and try to start your game back up. If you back up your Sims, Builds, and Game Saves, make a copy of them and put them to the side, just in case. So, what do you do if you cannot figure out the issue? You must determine whether it is a Game, CC, or Mod-related issue.
Something EA
If you run into a bug or crash while playing the game, check EA’s forums for information. Chances are, someone else has had the same issue and shared their experience. The Sims community is usually very helpful, don’t hesitate to reach out for help!
Reaching out to EA Resources
Here are some useful resources for help with The Sims game or the EA App. If you have an issue, reach out to the community or EA for assistance. Since the EA Answers and original Sims forums are being moved or retired, I’ve included some alternative links for EA-related bugs or issues. Please note that a lot of Simmers have reported long wait times for a response once they have submitted their inquiry to EA.

Something CC or Mod Related
A lot of issues that Simmers encounter when playing the Sims are mod and script-related errors. Most times, it is simple: you just need to update your mod or CC. A patch could have changed how the game reads these files. For these issues, you just need to find the original creator’s site or where the mod or cc are hosted and download the new version.

Non-TSR CC
We cannot offer support for non-TSR CC, so you would need to contact the creator or host site or check with the online community. The online community can be quite helpful. The chances are someone down the line of playing Sims has run into the same issue as you. Of course, the most direct way of resolving CC issues is to contact the hosting site to look for an updated version of the CC.
Last Exception Files
Last Exception, LE files in The Sims 4 are created when the game crashes or has issues. They contain information about what went wrong and can help troubleshoot problems with mods, custom content, or game performance. If your game misbehaves, check for an LE file in your “Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4” folder, usually named “lastException.txt.” You can open it with a text editor to see the error details. Simmers often use these files to find problematic mods or content. If you find an LE file, try removing any recently added or updated mods, test the game, and seek help from modding forums if needed. Analyzing these files can help resolve crashes or performance issues.
Chaos Prevention
If you’ve played the Sims for even a short time, you know to save your game often and return to your favorite Lots, Sims, and Game Saves. By returning to your favorite Lots, you can revisit cherished memories and continue the story of your Sims. Game saves allow you to experiment without fear. You can create backups before making significant changes or trying out new expansion packs, ensuring that your original game remains intact.
Patch Days
On patch day for The Sims 4, it’s advisable to temporarily remove your custom content (CC) and mods to prevent potential issues with the game’s updates. New patches can sometimes conflict with older versions of mods or CC, which may cause the game to crash or behave unpredictably.

For Simmer’s, practicing safe internet habits is essential to protect both your game and personal information. Always download mods and custom content from reputable sources, such as trusted modding communities or well-known creators and platforms. Avoid downloading from questionable or unfamiliar websites, as they may not check the quality and safety of their files.
It’s also important to use an antivirus program to scan files before adding them to your game since even popular mods can sometimes carry hidden threats. When interacting in online forums or social media groups, safeguard your privacy by being cautious with personal information and using secure passwords for your accounts.
Stay informed about mod or game updates that might affect your downloaded content. Some mods may cause issues after a game patch, so always back up your saves and mods before updating. By following these safe internet habits, you can ensure your gaming experience is enjoyable and secure!
Organize CC/Have a System
Organizing custom content (CC) in The Sims 4 is crucial for maintaining a smooth and enjoyable gaming experience. Start by creating subfolders within your “Mods” folder to categorize your CC. You can use labels like “Clothing,” “Furniture,” “Hair,” “Build/Buy,” and “Scripts.” This organization will make it easier to locate items and troubleshoot any issues, especially when new updates or patches are released.

Backing Up Sims/Builds/GameSaves
