Welcome to Chapter Three of 'In Another Life'.... Hold onto your hats, boys and girls, because we're in for a wild ride in the next few chapters! I don't want to give much away, so I won't say anything else..... just keep an eye out for surprises!
Oh, and before I get started, this one jumps forward in time a few months.
Kyle's tombstone rocked back and forth as his angry spirit tried to free itself from the cold rock.
Eventually the grave marker gave in, and lay flat on the ground as an angry, red ghost squeezed out of it.
Standing above his own grave, Kyle's ghost surveyed the graveyard. He'd come back for one reason and one reason only. His wife.
Upset and ready for revenge, he set out through the graveyard gates on his way to the beach. Their beach. From there, he would call her.

Elle's day started relatively well. She'd been expecting a call from Sam. They'd been dating for just over two months and she was already starting to forget her ex-husband. The wound that had been so painful was now quickly healing, and she owed it all to the local weather man.
While cleaning the kitchen, Elle's cell rang. Without looking at the caller ID, she picked it up and began rambling away.
"Sam!" she said! "I'm so glad you called! I was just thinking-"
"Not now," Sam said hurriedly. "Listen, I need you to meet me at the park in twenty minutes. Can you do that?"
Elle looked at her watch."Uh, yeah..." she mumbled." I suppose so. What's so important, anyway?"
"It doesn't matter. Just meet me at the park."
Hanging up, Elle grabbed her car keys and headed down to the park, wondering what on earth Sam was doing. Every thought crossed her mind. Good news, bad news.... whatever it was, it must have been important. She found him hiding under a tree behind the restrooms, with metal-framed sunglasses over his eyes. He glanced around and gestured for her to speed up. Reaching the tree, she threw him a puzzled look. "What's with the glasses?" she asked.
Sam shrugged. "I just don't want to be recognised."
This made Elle giggle. "You're the weather man! Not the president!"
"You recognised me," he pointed out, "the first time we met. Didn't you?"
"Elle," he began, sighing a little. "I want you to know how happy you've made me."
She blushed, swooning a little at his romance.
"And how much I love you,"
Elle blinked. Could this be the moment?
"I want to take you somewhere tomorrow night. Meet me at the beach we went to on our first date. You won't regret it, I promise."
A little disappointed, Elle agreed.
"Good," Sam said, scratching his nose.
Elle paused. "I have to ask something," she said.
"Mmm?" Sam mumbled.
"Why would you call me here today," she asked, making hand gestures, "to set up a date for tomorrow night? Why didn't you just call me tomorrow?"
"Ah," Sam replied. "You'll have to wait and see. Now, do you wanna catch a movie?"

* * *

Later that night, Elle was watching T.V in the dark when she heard a noise. It was like a song on the breeze that was drawing her away....
She turned of the T.V set and stood up. It was coming from outside. She stepped onto the veranda and looked out over the beach.
She could hear it now. A chorus, a song she'd heard before.
A love song.
Without changing, she ran back through the house and out the front door. She had to get to the beach, and fast!
She reached the beach and began walking barefoot in the stunning white sand. The song was still calling her, and now it was like an unseen force that was pulling her towards it. She felt like no amount of kicking, screaming or resistance would stop it.

All of a sudden she felt the urge to stop running. She paused and squinted at the horizon. Coming closer was a fiery red haze....
As it came closer, she realised the haze was a ghost. She had heard rumors of them before, showing up to fix what went wrong in their last life before they can move into another one. She watched in awe as it approached.
The ghost stood in front of her and waved a fiery hand. Elle noticed that it's hazy features looked all too familiar. She noticed then that it was the ghost of her ex-husband.
"Elle," he said, his voice full of anger and passion.
Elanor shivered in the cool night air. She was wearing her negligee, and despite the heat radiating from Kyle's ghost, she was still freezing.
"You're seeing another man," he said, baring his teeth.
Elle nodded, still scared.
"You can't," Kyle whispered. "I am your only love. I forbid you."
Elle took a step back. The flames on Kyles body were roaring now, getting fiercer with his rising anger. She shook her head. "You can't do this," she said, as much to reassure herself than to acknowledge Kyle.
"Oh, yes I can," he insisted and he stepped closer again. "And if you see him again, I'll make sure he ends up the same way I did. You belong with me, Elle. Not him. I am your only love."
"It's in your hands now," Kyle snarled, raising a flaming hand to point at her. "It's your decision. You should be with me."
Elle shook her head again. "I can't. You're a ghost.... you're not even alive. I can't be with you."
Kyle laughed. It was an evil, sadistic laugh. "I'm here aren't I? Isn't that living enough?"
"No," Elle said firmly. "You're gone, you're dead."
Sam glared. "No I'm not. I'm here. And I'm your husband."
"No, you're not!" Elle insisted. "You're dead. You had your chance. Now it's gone. I won't listen to you. I won't!"
"But you have to," Kyle grinned. "I have powers, Elle. And you don't want to see them."
Elle frowned. "Leave me alone."
