Manuel Ashute sits quietly in the lounge. He is too deep in his own thoughts to pay attention to the other patrons that pass by him in the lobby of the hotel. He walks, back and forth, waiting. Trying to be patient. Every minute seemed like 10. He stared at his watch again. He was early but he was always early. Roger: Sir. Mrs. Ashute is on the phone for you
Manuel: My wife or my mother?
Roger: Your mother sir
Manuel motions for Roger to bring the cell phone to him. He takes a deep breath as he looks at it. He clears his throat before bringing the phone to his ear. He could hear her voice calling his name.
Mother Ashute: Mannie? Mannie where have you been? I've been calling you for two days now.
Manuel: I'm taking a break mother.
Mother Ashute: But Diane is worried sick and so have I. You just up and left without telling anyone anything. We are only weeks away from your wedding. You said you were going to take time off to focus on this.
Manuel: I know. I know. Some important business came up that I need to handle.
Mother: So important that you just left your family.
Manuel: Mom. I'm fine okay. And I will be back as soon as I am done here.
Mother: When is that?
Manuel: I don't know
Mother: But-
Manuel: I have to go, mom. Tell Diana I am fine and I will see you all when I get back.
Mother: Manuel Ashute! I can't believe you are treating me like this. I am your mother and all I ask is that you show me just a little respect. You leave somewhere and you just expect for everyone to carry on. And now you are talking to me like I am some commoner.
Manuel: I'm...I'm sorry mother. I am just tired and need to rest up. I will call you later.

Before his mother could continue pleading with Manuel, he turned off the phone and gave it back to Roger.
Manuel had had enough. For the first time in years, he was going to do what he wanted to do. He was determined to get what he came for and he wasn't going to leave.
Roger interrupted once more.
Roger: Your guest has arrived sir.
Manuel: Thank you. And for now on, do not answer any calls from my mother or Diana.
Roger: Understood.
Mother Ashute: What are you up to Manuel? We don't have time for you to get cold feet. Manuel was happy to see his longtime friend seated at the dinner table. The two men greeted each with a big bro hug before sitting down.
Manuel: It's been a long time.
Saul: Exactly. So imagine my surprise when you call me after all these years.
Manuel: How is the family?
Saul: Wonderful. You know, my sister heard that you are getting married in a few weeks. That means you are no longer available for her to pursue.
The men laughed at the thought.
Manuel: Thank you again Saul for helping me with this one.
Saul: I want to say that this is the biggest investigation I have ever taken on.
Manuel: I can tell. It took you months to find something for me.
Saul: But I only would have done this for you. If it wasn't for you, I would have never met my wife. So I figured I owe you this. One love to another.
After more small talk, Manuel was eager to get back to business.
Manuel: So what were you able to find?
Saul reached into his inner pocket and pulled out an envelope.
Saul: It wasn't easy. It's as if they changed everything about them. Nothing for three years and then poof. I was able to get quite a bit. Address, job. It's all here. (patting the envelope on the table)
Saul: I usually don't ask questions of my clients, but since I don't see you as I client I have to ask.
Manuel: What?
Saul: You're getting married, why are you still pursuing this.
Manuel: I just have to close some loose ends. Get things straightened out.
Saul: As your best friend since grade school I can always tell when you're keeping something from me. So I will say that whatever else is the other reason, be careful. It's been a long time.
Manuel: Thanks for your concern. But this is something I have to do.
He opened the envelope slightly and looked over the information.
Manuel: Since I am on a tight schedule I will leave you to dine. Just have them put everything on my tab.
Saul: Before you go, there is more in the documents that I have to tell you...............
Manuel sat in the backseat of the car, staring out the window.
Roger: Where are we going sir?
Manuel: Pleasantview.
He gave Roger a card with the address on it.
