The children had gone to school and Cynthia was cleaning the house. She couldn’t get her thoughts away from the lighthouse and Jeremy. She thought that because of the lighthouse, it was worth organizing a party to celebrate. Everybody had missed its beam. That could be a good reason for a party. A party to celebrate Jeremy’s luck… But that would be difficult to explain to the guests… She called Jeremy to congratulate him on the Light and that was how she found out that he was in Sunset Valley for a couple of days. She told him about her ideas to throw a lighthouse party and asked him if he would like to assist as well… He said “yes, sure… but within a couple of days I will go to Bridgeport, and plan to stay there for a few days, so we meet tonight?” Tonight? No, that wasn’t enough time for Cynthia to prepare everything. She made some phone calls to her friends and invited them for next week Saturday. That would suit Jeremy better and she would have time to organize everything. Yes, her friends noticed that the lights were back on the lighthouse. Most of them experienced their hearts fill with joy the moment the light beam started swaying again. She wanted it to be a garden party, and while preparing the garden, every time when she passed by Raphael’s tombstone she said something nice, like: ‘Eh darling, I’m sure you would like to assist as well’… and afterwards ‘I know that we will not disturb you…, this party has much to do with you as well… as the bringer of Light to some of us…’ Organizing and re-organizing, time passed and the boys were wondering why their mother forgot to prepare their lunch. At the same time they were thrilled about the upcoming party. Especially Risto when Cynthia told him that evening that he was allowed to invite his friends. “Oh mom, you just don’t know how much I love you!” he said.
At the Hunter house they received an invitation to Cynthia’s party as well. Jane was busy packing her things, but she certainly didn’t want to miss a party organized by Cynthia. She wondered if she would be allowed to bring Alejandro and her friend Penny as well and if so…, if they could be of any assistance… So first of all she called Cynthia and afterwards Alejandro and Penelope. That was arranged…. Now she only needed to choose her outfit for the party… and that would take more time….
Penelope had returned from Bridgeport some weeks ago and she had seen Jane only once. That one time was enough for her to see that her girlfriend was deeply in love and Penny was very pleased for her. When Jane called her to invite her to Cynthia’s party, she said she wasn’t really sure if she would, because she didn’t know her. But as Jane insisted… she promised to think it over…. She missed her daily meetings with her girl friend but, she knew that Alejandro was in first place now. She hoped that he and Jane would be happy and that Jane wouldn’t have to go through the same as she had with her ex-husband in the past.
Raph brought the invitations to Ilona Hemmingway and said that all the children were welcome as well. While talking with his friend, he said that Cynthia also had invited lots of old people. It wouldn’t really be fun. Perhaps they could escape and do something else…
When Cynthia wanted to invite Auntie Dawn, the older woman wasn’t at home. Cynthia wondered who this young woman was who answered the door. Then Rosalind presented herself and Cynthia gave her the invitation for the three of them for her party on next Saturday. Rosalind said that she would give the message to Auntie Dawn. There would be the Hemmingway family with the children. Let’s see…; two of her own, Carmen, the six kids of her friend Ilona. That would be nine kids…. When talking about it with her sons, Raph said that it wouldn’t be a nice party with all these old people around. There would be ten adults, IF all the invited people would come.
Cynthia thought that she might as well split the party in two. One part of the backyard could be prepared for the children and the other part for the adults. The children wouldn’t feel so observed. Yes…, that was what she would do
With that in mind she continued organizing everything.
Auntie Dawn had a very light sleep and she had been aware that her second cousin had left the house during the night. She wondered why…. She had been out all night. What was that woman doing out on the streets?! On the other hand, she was an adult and it was clear to her that she couldn’t tell her what she could or couldn’t do. Of one thing she was sure; there was more to this escape to Sunset Valley. One of these days, she had to call Rosalind’s mom. Perhaps she could tell her more.
Meanwhile Jeremy had taken his ship to the wharf. It needed some repairs and he wanted the bathroom renewed. As he was going away for some days, this seemed to be a good moment for having these things done. As he didn’t know how long they would be working on the repairs, he hired a small vacation house with a nice garden.
He would travel to Bridgeport by car…. He desperately needed new outfits, so he would buy some before leaving.
The last evening in Sunset Valley he decided to have dinner at the Bistro. It had been quite a while that he hadn’t been there. He happened to see Jane… She didn’t see him; she had only eyes for a young man and they seemed to be very much in love. He was really glad to see it…. A man of her own age and he hoped with all his heart that he would make her happy. The next day, Jeremy took his new car and drove to Bridgeport He received the confirmation that the Bluewater Inn had a room for him. It was a nice drive through the country side and it wasn’t hard to find. It was a beautiful scenery with a fantastic view over Bridgeport.
He stopped the car for a moment to enjoy the view on the mountains and it seemed to him that there was snow on the highest peaks. From that same point he could see the Inn; it really was in an idyllic surrounding.
He got into his car and drove up to the hotel.

To be continued…
