Beating the brows....(to death?)

Hey everyone, I know its been forever since I have made an entry, but as I think I have mentioned before, (in my forum thread) I'm not very good at this. I always find it hard to believe that anyone would have any interest in anything I have to say.

Anyway, been a terribly busy few months, lots of things to deal with, family and otherwise, so I have been really struggling to keep up with my normal pace. I think I have managed okay, and am getting back into the swing of things for the most part.

I have a new free set starting the 20th of February, my Kitten hair retexture on that adorable mesh by Marko. (you'll be seeing more of my retextures of his great meshes in the coming months) I'd like to apologize for not keeping on the ball with the free sets, its something that I always intend to do, and in trying not to fall behind with everything else, it gets left on the side. I hope to keep that from becoming a habit, as Its one of my favorite things to do, picking what gets to be free next.


Anyway onto the (main) subject of this mesh. Brows. Just finished uploading a huge set of eyebrows, thirty-six in all, 9 sets. These are always so much fun for me to do. I love eyebrows, I love painting them, I love the way they frame the face, the way they can entirely change the appearance of a sim, and of course, the way they express emotion. I especially like the unkempt sort of brow, with stray hairs, and not perfectly in place. There are SO many of those out there, and I just like the idea of adding something a little more unique to the mix. I'm a little worried I've reached my limit, (hence the title of this entry) so if you would love to see more brows, or would rather me focus on other things, please don't hesitate to let me have it in the comments, or in my forum thread. I may just spend the rest of my life drawing eyebrows otherwise. :p

One Angry Artist -- & Previews

Do I not coexist on the planet of TSR? I have entirely too much love for this site, yet it's obvious that the love isn't in return. I believe that the higher powers of this planet has summoned me to become a falling angel. My hypothesis for this statement is because I simply have been forgotten or over looked. I've been uploading new items since Valentine's day only to find out today that they are still pending. Oh, how I despise that word now. 4 long excruciating days without an approval of my work can drive a maddd dame in distress. It has never taken this long. And for those who still DO love me on this planet, I thought that I might share some previews with you. It's clear that this set was suppose to be here for V'Day. Anyhow, on with the others...emphhh And bummed is how I feel on this day. Now may I at least have some cheese to go with my whine? Thanks... Now shoo before I hex you!

BV-only beach lot

My husband has taken over my gaming computer!

So I decided to try a new experiment while he's off enjoying adventures in Oblivion. I am passing the hours on my old office computer by building a Coca Beach lot that only requires Bon Voyage. I got the idea from Tigerblue, one of my favorite TSR artists. What a challenge!

Cue Ad Line:
Now you, too, can enjoy a Coca Beach vacation home. Bon Voyage! No prior expansion pack required!

A couple of observations:

1) The graphics on my office pc are pitiful. I can't believe I ever played TS2 on it! Everything looks like plastic, there are few textures, and the water is just a flat blue. After I package the BV-only lot, I'll have to load it on my gaming pc to take proper photos. I'm so thankful I have my Sims pc... yep, I bought it expecially for The Sims 2. My husband is so lucky I let him play on it ... ;)

2) I love the challenge of being limited to fewer options as I build. Will my BV-only Coca Beach lot be as nice as the others? I'll let you be the judge!

Getting the word out...

...I've been talking with another TSR Member (Wolfsim68) who has truly inspired me. She's an incredibly motivating person, and has shown me that I'm not alone in what I'm dealing with. She's a strong advocate for donation, be it blood, organs, anything...if you have it, give it. You never know when you'll need something from someone else. Never say never.

I'd also like to share a story about a friend of mine who's recently dealing with Colon Cancer. She never went in for a Colonoscopy many, many years ago because she was embarassed...and here she is today, with pain and suffering and horrible heartache trying to cope with having most of her colon removed because of the cancer. Her advice...don't wait. The longer you wait...the worse off you'll be.

I've a very, very rare condition that is truly heartbreaking for me. I was introduced to another member of TSR who has healed some wounds simply with a generous ear. If any of you feel you need to talk...you can always count on me. I know that I'm incredibly thankful to have PMed a particular person, and I'm sure there are other's out there who just need to talk...so if you're reading, and you need an unbiased ear...I'm willing to listen.

Restoring Done

Hi All,

I have fully restored my game and am now back in business again. I also baught a brand new Dell XPS 420 with higher processors and a better performance machine. This new computer allowed me to fully restore my download folder which now has 30000 files. My old one has 20000. The new computer loads in 10min and less than 1 min a neighborhood. Old machine 35-40min and 10min a neighborhood. Big difference.

Now that the restoring is done and I have installed up to BV. I will be subbmitting my new homes from differenet expansions soon about 3 a week. I have a total of 20 homes to submit which you will see in my stories when you read them. They would say coming soon to TSR.

Still Alive

I just wanted to let everyone know that I haven't forgotten about you all. My life just took a bad turn and will only get worse. Back in November my Mom fell and broker her hip. While she was in the hospital recovering for have hip replacement surgery they discovered that she has lung cancer. There isn't anything they can do for her due to current medical conditions. So she is here with us and is under Hospice care. For the time being she is doing very well, but there is a lot of work to do around the house.

Her and I decided to that it would be better for all of her stuff to gone through and divided between us 6 kids. Well I only have two siblings that live in the same town and my younger sister hasn't spoken to my Mom in well over ten years. My older brother that lives here can't handle doing it. So I am stuck with doing the job alone and there is so much stuff!

On top of that I am also trying to open a home based business. That part is going pretty good. My new computer will here on Thursday and my daughter will get this one. So I have to make room in my kitchen/dinning for two computers. Thankfully I have don't have a small area to work with....LOL

Dorm rooms

I'm getting ready to send some of my simmies off to college. I took one look at the maxis dorms, and thought "Ugh!" So, there will be some new dorm furnishings coming your way. I'm making four inexpensive bedrooms to send with your simmies, when they head off to the Higher Learning institutions. Actually, I'm making eight, but the other four will be submitted to another site I'm a part of. I hope you like them.

I was worried for a second!

I thought Xmsims was history, but evidently they must've changed the url for their site because now the original links aren't working. So now I'll have to change all the links for my Xmsims hair colors (yeah, it sucks, I know, lol). I just noticed this today so I'm sorry if you've been trying to get the meshes from their site. The problem is I've been very, very busy so I won't be able to change the links at this moment. Within the next day or so I should have it done.

New Swings: And why there aren't many about...

Sometimes, I get an idea that I really haven't thought out at all. One of those "I'll just do this" moments where the 'just' ends up being anything BUT 'just'! If I kept a diary, the entries for the last week would go something like this...

[Mon am]: Woke up with a bright idea - a new swing for industrial lots! Something with weights, hooks etc, something that looked as though a baddie Sim had MADE it into a swing when it wasn't meant to be.

[Mon pm]: Made a mesh for the weighing hoist swing. Now time to make a clone of the Maxis swing (fellow artists are now scratching their heads and wondering why I work backwards - should have cloned the mesh first, blah blah - I know)

[Tues am]: Realised that I was now going to have to split my mesh into a million different pieces for the various subsets. Okay, fine, but what are all those 'null' meshes? Ignore for now and press on.

[Tues pm]: Load up my game and look for Mr Gieke in my neighbourhood. He never does anything worthwhile, so maybe he'd like a new swing. Firstly, the swing had the most hideous texture problem (still using the Maxis textures despite me adding my own) and although Mr Gieke gleefully rushed to the swing, he stopped short of it and froze - literally! As did my game! Something seriously wrong here. :-(

[Weds am]: Dissecting the package, I see that the cloned BHAVs are a veritable mess, referencing the GUIDs of the original Maxis swing. Spent a horrible, HORRIBLE morning going through each and every one laboriously looking for and correcting GUID references. But I spotted and fixed the texture problem, so my temper softened by a minute degree. I realised I'd embarked upon a most foolish venture and I really SHOULD just stick to decorative items in future...

[Weds pm]: The swing works, fully animated, all pieces connecting when adding extra swings too ! Mr Gieke loves it (though would rather be playing chess). BUT, the texture is STILL all wrong and horrible (looks like a yellow, red and blue chequered court jester!). This impacts on MY colouring as I turn from red anger to purple rage. And an even worse problem has materialised: the swings replace the Maxis swings!!! Spent the next ten minutes moaning and wailing at the world in general about this life crisis, then more productlively rechecked all my GUIDs (MsBarrows will tell you how often I can forget those!) but there is no problem at all.

I did some forum hunting and virtually wept when I discovered this is an age-old problem with cloned swings that most people, including some notable creator-gurus, have not yet been able to solve. All but one of the few custom swings out there all carry the same warning: will replace the Maxis swings. But one didn't - just one, so it HAD to be possible. Back to my package again. Got nowhere. Gloom blankets the house (or my corner of it at any rate).

[Thurs am]: Write a weeping, wailing, plea to fellow artists with knowledge of BHAVs and GUIDs. Whilst waiting for miraculous help to descend from the skies, I start the whole project over again with different clone settings and, this time, the textures on the second swing are finally right (phew), but had this cured the problem with overwriting the Maxis swings? In short, no. Even the dogs are creeping off into hidden corners now as an air of thunder descends.

[Thurs pm]: Determination strikes! I start the whole project over AGAIN by cloning the bonus Seasons swing instead - a good idea from Simaddict99. Alas, Maxis has changed the swing set-up for their new swing and I realised that I was going to have to remake all my meshes and animations - aargh!!! Oh well, but after a fraught day of that, I realise this third swing is even worse than the last (which at least worked)! My latest attempt is a real mess and will have to go.

[Thurs eve]: No-one's able to throw any light on the problem; miraculous help from the skies is rather silent on the subject. I return to the second swing and try some good suggestions from AnoeskaB who has looked at the package for me, but the stupid, hateful, horrible, really-making-me-screaming-MAD swing STILL replaces the Maxis swing!!! No-one has any other ideas. There's nothing left to do. After a week of creator-hell, I discard my attempts, vowing NEVER to touch swings again. I load up my game to ensure everything is restored back to normal and that my Maxis swings have returned...

No Cyclonesue swings, but no Maxis swings either!

Instead, I seem to have Targa's tree swing (Targa does mention that this tree replaces the default swings - it's just that I never knew I even had any custom swings)! Was it THIS swing all along that was replacing the Maxis set and not mine??? I removed Targa's swing, recovered my last-working swing from the recycle bin - and lo and behold, not only does the swing work perfectly, the Maxis swings are intact too!!!!!!

And so I've done it. I'd probably done it on Tuesday if truth be known - grrr). That will teach me for not emptying my downloads folder when I test stuff (well, I expect it won't, but there we all are). I'm putting the swing through some testing with expert testers. All being well, this will be out in a couple of weeks to be downloaded by all three of us who like peculiar items!

...but I'm still wondering whether my vow of NEVER AGAIN still remains regarding swings after this!

2008 hates me...

ANOTHER BIG WINTER STORM IS HEADING MY WAY... YAY :P We have only barely recovered from the nasty storm that had us without electricty, phone, and Internet for several days, damaged the roof and chimney, flooded the basement to well over 70 cm with filthy water, and fried my Simming system... now, the local evening news broadcast informed us to steel ourselves for another beating by "Ol' Man Winter". Even before we had all the repairs completed, on two different occasions this week we had freezing rain and snow begin at sunset and turn the streets here into a death trap just as people were leaving work for home. We had friends and co-workers camping out here, sleeping on the sofa, chairs, the floor. I am a fairly hardy guy when it comes to Winter hardships, having grown up in Sankt Petersburg, but you know... when I came to the USA and started university, no one informed me that the weather here would present me with both Russian Winters and Tropical Storms in the same month. I would have thought that this would require extensive travel, but here in the USA it's all at your doorstep without ever you asking ... *grumble* I am trying to be gracious, really, but someone needs to break Ol' Man Winter's legs or something.

Currently building ...

I build in The Sims 2 because I like to play. If I can't find the perfect lot to suit my playing needs, then I build it.

Recently I started building an entire hood from scratch. It's based on southern rural towns (in the USA). I started with a trailer park that contains all my Indian Meadows lots. When I play new Sims, I don't like to use cheats. My Sims must work their way through life. So for some, that means life starts out in a dumpy trailer park. I dropped in my Peachtree Road lots, except they'll be on Peachtree Circle in my hood. Eventually, I'll build some farms, community lots, and mom-and-pop business lots for Main Street.

I am also building up a beach vacation hood using WolfSim68's Happily Never After hood terrain. I will probably build 4 or 5 mid-range vacation homes, then build some starter vacation bungalows before moving on to hotels and community lots.

Fried Shrimp

Seeing the recent article about food in Free Time got me inspired, so I decided to try to make some of my own. To start with I decided to make fried shrimp. It wont be done for a few days... I still have to work out my sim preparing shrimp then magically getting a pork chop on the stove..

After a ridiculous cold spell, I think I'm in the mood for a nice, hot bath.

Ole Mediterran Windows & Door

I just love these windows and door by OleManTiker at InSIMenator. The truth is I am correcting a problem with these recolors. In my Sleepy Hollow Lots 5 & 6, I used these build items and had recolored them. Well, the recolor does NOT show up in the packaged lots. I have no idea why this has happened. But if you have downloaded the those houses ... you will have to add the recolors separately. For now, this is the only way I can think of to fix the problem. A special thank to brad_lea for contacting me and letting me know there was a problem!!!

New submissions

Alrighty, I've submitted a few new skins to TSR around end of December. But they haven't showed up yet. Oh well, I'll see what happens. Anyways, I've got two new skins for fat females coming (GUESS and Chanel) so it's kind of in the Branded series but not for kids. I've also got a male head coming as well. Hopefully those will show up soon, since it's been 3 months since I've posted them... Here are some previews:

A Leave of Absense

Elder Clothes...

I'm amazed at how many people thank me for doing skins for female elders. I just want to take a minute to say thank you to all of you who download my creations. I became obsessed with the fact that my "Granny" looked frumpy and had such a 'crappy' wardrobe selection, so I learned how to make my own. All of the clothing I have here is stuff that I've made to have for myself in my game. (I have tons more as I'm obsessed! lol) I hope you enjoy them as much as I do creating and using them myself. Have a great day!

How Do I Create Walls/Floors/Bedding etc.

I get private messages on a regular basis on how I created walls/floors etc. I do my best to answer each and every message I get, and in a timely matter. To those of you waiting for a response (and I'm pretty sure I've answered everyone at the moment), I realize that you are eager to get started on creating your own items, but my schedule is a full one. Between homeschooling the kids, household chores and errands, doctor's appointments, and having a little time to myself for reading/writing/creating new Sims content, I'm really sort of stretched to the max.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy helping those who ask for my help, and will continue to help anyone that asks for it. I just want to let you all know that it may take a little while to get back to everyone.

Let me also point out that while you wait, please take a moment to check out the tutorials here at TSR. Many artists here have taken time to help aid you in creating your own custom content, and through their expertise, have managed to come up with some great tutorials. I have yet to look at any of the HomeCrafter tutorials, but if they're anything like the others that I have had to pleasure to read through, they will be very informative and easy to follow.

Feb. 17th, Vanity Fair Drawing Room

Part VI of the Vanity Fair Collection is the drawing room or parlor. Victorian drawing rooms, primarily used to entertain guests and to exhibit the family�s wealth and status in the community. The highlight of the set is a faux fireplace and ornate decorative mirror. It�s OK to be showy and extravagant!

The faux fireplace is cloned from a coffee table, there are 3 decorative slots on the mantle and 2 decorative slots located in the fireplace's hearth. The set's sofa and loveseat's textures are linked, you must download the 3-tile sofa mesh to use the loveseat mesh.

The fireplace mirror, fire logs & andirons (lighting), and the mantle oil lamp require Nightlife EP. All other objects are base game compliant.
