Hiya, the country is a muslim country, so they live by islamic law. The person who has the most power is the Sultan, he's the ruler of the country, I don't know about the goverment and how much say they have as we don't hear about it, politics, as we know it, is not at the top of the news agenda, we're kinda regulated with what we hear or see. $\:\)$ As for the countries alliance with the other middle eastern countries, I don't know much but I know they get on with Dubai and Abi Dabi and they did have a war with Yemen in the seventies and now have many military checkpoints near the Yemen border (about an hour and a half away from where we live) as they have a lot of trouble with smugglers.

Oh and we work in celcius too so it's ok, 30 degrees is hot, it reaches about 32 degrees here in Salalah so you're almost up there with us $\;\)$

No..no gay pride in oman, they do have a rally in London, I remember because when I was in the army a few of my friends were gay and wanted to go to the pride but they couldn't as they'd have been thrown out of the army, that was back in the dark ages where being gay was frowned upon in the armed forces, nowadays they're much more tolerant. $\:\)$ I'm glad you've exceeded your expectations with the job, kinda makes it a bit more enjoyable eh?

Have been reading up on your summer job on Sally's page, I don't envy you one bit $\:P$ I must admit that I have looked away when I have seen someone with a clipboard walk towards me, I have never been rude though $\:P$ I must be in the wrong age bracket now as lately it's their turn to ignore me $\:\)$ A few more weeks and you will be starting Uni, do you have lots of things to buy before you leave home. We had a car full when we took our youngest last year and two car fulls when he came home $\:D$ Will you fly or drive over as that will determine how much luggage you have. Let me know how you get on. Enjoy the rest of the summer , have fun $\:D$

I think I'll soldier on at least another week. Then we'll see. I like the wacko people, it's just saying "Hi! Can I speak to you? THank's anyway, have a nice day!" to people who pretend they can't see me does get to you. The high points are when someone says "likewise", turning of head to actually look at me is optional. Nut I'll survive. I read some comments about Martin's "scare" in your gb, it did peak my curiosity. My family's all very well, my sister's returned from her university tour. We'll see what she decides in the autumn. //Dragoness

Hiya, great minds think alike, I was gonna contact you tomorrow, it would've been earlier today but the oman internet has been down all day. Where are you working? When do you go to Uni? The weather here is ok, it's hot and muggy as it's nearly monsoon season then it's misty, overcast and rains until the end of september, it'll be like living in the uk again $\;\)$ The news goes something like this (eveyday)..... His honourable Highness Sultan Qaboos sent/recieved a cable of greetings from King/Queen?head of state or recieved/ sent a gift to blah blah blah .... American forces killed -- civillians in Iraq or -- American soldiers were killed in fighting in Iraq ..... then there's usually something about other arab states and thats it, no more news/info on anything, they have no political views that I know of or conflicts at all (only with illegal aliens from Yemin). But I do know that if you have a visa from israel in your passport they won't let you in the country, not really a conflict, just that they don't (like most muslims) recognise Israel as a state. I still haven't played Megan and her mum, I'm going to figure out how to clone sims so I can make clones of them then I can then play them and don't have to worry about them getting old $\;\)$ Are you still having problems with your PC?

Don't worry about it, I find it interesting too! The omani man that we know does say that they treat women like princesses $\:wacko\:$ A woman is there to give birth to sons and heirs and so she must be treated well, when their parents become too elderly to look after themselves, they move in with the eldest son and his wife and they take care of them, no nursing homes for the elderly here, I think that is why they think we don't care, a lot of western men can be very cruel to women, rape and murdering of women is a very rare thing over here (it does happen sometime though) also we shove our elderly into homes as soon as we can, you're right we're selfish $\;\)$

I know it's terrible and so cruel $\:mad\:$ But they could probably say the same about some of our rules and way of life $\:\($ It's just different cultures and Saudi Arabia is even worse, women aren't even allowed to drive there because the men think that if a woman drives she'll have an afair $\:wacko\:$

I bet you can't wait to run around with your stupid hat on $\;\)$ Ok here goes with my next lot of info. It is ileagal here for women to have babies out of wedlock, if a woman gets pregnant and she's not married and she wants to keep the baby she has to go to Dubai to have it. If a single woman has a baby here in Oman the police come and they take the baby away from her as soon as it's born, even if she wants to keep the baby, she never sees it again, then when she's recovered enough to leave hospital they throw her in jail for 3-5 months $\:o$ It's not just the omani women they do this too, it's all women, a woman from the phillaphines had a baby here and she was single and they took her baby away and sent her to jail. I don't know what happens to the baby's but that's just awful that a mother who wants her child can't have it just because she's not married, how terrible for the poor children growing up without parents just because their parents were not married. $\:\($
